This week we watch two heartwarming family films about young girls trapped in magical lands, except also one of them is about psychiatric abuse and the other is about cancer. They're also both about faces, mirrors, and the mutability of self. In which we poke fun at Neil Gaiman again, Labyrinth is the missing third of this trilogy, Oz probably doesn't have effective crisis counselling, Jack Merv Jack Pumpkinhead is just made of stuff, Saoirse talks about Todorov's Fantastic five minutes after promising not to, and the real charm was the chickens we met along the way.
