  • Clare Public Warned Of Drowning Risk At Waterways This Weekend

    Those visiting Clare's waterways this weekend are being reminded that many drowning victims don't even intend to get into water. This May Bank Holiday, Water Safety Ireland, the Coast Guard, and the RNLI are collectively urging the public to prioritise safety both during water activities and when walking near waterways. Research shows that 36% of people don't know what to do if they get into trouble in the water. Clarecastle-based Chairperson of Water Safety Ireland Clare McGrath has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons that extreme caution should be observed when walking along cliff edges and river banks.

  • Oireachtas Group Aiming To Develop Action Plan For 15,000 Clare People With Cardiovascular Disease

    An Oireachtas Group will aim to develop a national action plan that will support 15,000 Clare people living with Cardiovascular disease. The group which will specifically focus on heart and stroke issues was established by the Irish Heart Foundation in conjunction with Clare TD Cathal Crowe. The condition accounted for 27% of all deaths in Clare in 2023. Irish Heart Foundation Senior Policy Manager Mark Murphy says most instances of the diseases are preventable.

The day, which celebrates "peace and unity in Europe", is celebrated on the 5th of May by the Council of Europe and on the 9th of May by the European Union. An event to mark Europe Day will be held today in Ennis. “Europe: Past, Present, Future” will take place at the Old Ground Hotel later (10am-12pm). It is being hosted by the Mayor of Ennis, Committee of Regions member, and Fianna Fáil Councillor, Clare Colleran Molloy.   • Electric Vehicle Sales Rebounding In Clare

    Electric vehicle sales in Clare appear to be rebounding so far this year. New data from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry shows 184 EVs were sold in this county between January and April which is up almost 45% on the figure for the same period in 2024. A total of 1,587 vehicles have been sold in Clare in 2025 to date which indicates a 8% increase on last year. SIMI Director General Brian Cooke says it's a trend that can be observed nationwide.

  • Clare Tourism Director Reacts To New North Clare Shuttle Bus

    A new free of charge shuttle bus service connecting two of Clare’s most prominent tourist destinations to towns and villages has officially been launched today. The Burren and Cliffs Explorer is expected to run for the next three months and significantly ease traffic congestion in the region. There are seven busses in the fleet for seven different routes that will all be operated by C&C Executive Travel. The service begins at 9am daily in Miltown Malbay, Kilfenora, Doolin and Liscannor and will have busses arriving at, and leaving the Cliffs of Moher every half hour. Clare Tourism Director Siobhán McNulty believes it will bring major benefits.

It comes as SIPTU retained firefighters, who are part-time members paid an annual retainer to be on-call, have voted 64% in favour of Labour Court recommendations aimed at resolving their long-running pay dispute. The deal will see increased retainer payment dates brought forward as well as the implementation of restructured working hours. Shop steward for Clare’s retained firefighters Edward Moloney has been telling Clare FM’s Seán Lyons that the flexibility the new measures will offer them should've come a long time ago.

Building Connections was launched by Clarecare in conjunction with the Department of Psychology in Mary Immaculate College, Tusla and The HSE. It examined the experience of parenting while living with a mental health challenge. The report and findings of the research were launched recently.
