A couple familiar voices come back to Deep in the Knight after a bit of a hiatus. Since they were last in the studio, Jovan was approaching graduation and Jack was preparing to embark on his journey to Europe. In their first time behind the microphone in nine months they start the conversation there. They also discuss the current state of the podcast, and their plans with it in the future. Where did Deep in the Knight go, what went wrong, and more information about the overall production.The two remain themselves and well connected through it all to give your their unfilitered opinions of their experience over the past two years. While it was never easy or a small amount of work, they always worked with through the vision of the listeners. This week’s episode features Deep in the Knight’s very own Troy Alford Jr, a junior here at UCF from Miami Gardens, fl. Troy’s contributions to deep in the knight include the photography, video editing and managing the Instagram page, all very crucial parts of the operation. His major is Radio/Television production and he’s been doing a great job getting involved and hands on. Hitting The Field is a UCF student ran production that revolves around the world of sports, both professional and collegiate. This, and our podcast are just some of the ways troy is getting the experience he needs to open the doors of opportunity. Troy shared with us his inspirations and where his values lie, both rooted to his faith. This week’s episode features Brittany Gil, a 25 year old UCF alumni who graduated in fall of 2015 majoring in interdisciplinary studies: Women and gender track. Brittany’s time at UCF helped her find not only her voice, but many other reasons to love herself. She was very involved in the Young Women Leaders Program, giving young women a place to learn to love and empower themselves and others. Brittany is a first generation American and her family is from the Dominican Republic. She proudly embraces her Caribbean culture and says she is inspired most by her mother and sister, “all encompassing, divine, holy women that hail from the heavens”- Brittany. After her time at UCF, Brittany continued her education at FIU. It was here where she began speaking at conferences on topics like social justice looks like in the classroom, and ways to support critical thinkers. This week we had the pleasure of sitting down and getting to knowwith Tristan Laravea, a 21 year old junior who resides in Melbourne but hails from Nashville, Tennessee. Tristan is majoring in interdisciplinary studies and plans on utilizing his education to further expand his already vast production experience. NPI productions is a successful company that Tristan already is a crucial member of. Their productions seem more like vacations. Besides making beats and editing videos, another one of Tristan’s passions is skateboarding, a hobby that has been with him all his life. Tristan is a familiar face in the skate shop on campus, being a major part of the UCF’s skate club. His story is one of the reasons why we do what we do. This week’s episode features Brendan Pafford, a senior here at UCF majoring in entertainment management. Similar to other musically gifted individuals, Brendan wants to use his education to have a better understanding of the ways of the entertainment business, from both the artist and management perspectives. We hear about Brendan’s path to music, which includes chorus, poetry, and even a being a member of a garage band! We learn that the inspiration for Brendan’s music come from life events that he can retell using a melody as a medium. We also got to enjoy a brief tangent on aliens and whether we’re alone in this universe...or not. This week’s guest is Sabrina Jerome, a 23 year old alumni who calls Orlando home. She studied political science and religion and cultural studies during her time here at UCF. This well spoken young lady’s love for politics shone brightly during her interview. Sabrina explained to us that her interest in politics stemmed from listening to all the men of her family debate while she avoided the duties typically done by the women during family gatherings, preparing food. Sabrina was very involved during her time as a student, even serving as an ambassador of the university to President John C. Hitt. She also took us deep into her love for the sport of basketball and the life lessons that were instilled in her by her coach. Winning isn’t everything, but winning sure is fun, and it is important to Sabrina, whether it be a debate or a basketball game. Join us in taking a dive into this unique individual’s story. Every so often we come across an individual so inspiring that we happily get lost in their story. So much so that we lose track of time and run well past our scheduled studio time. This weeks episode is an example of that. We were joined in the studio by David Torrence, a 24 year old sport and exercise science alumni of UCF. David was not at all shy when it came to diving deep into his life’s story, explaining to us some of the trials he’s been through. A former D1 basketball hopeful who’s reality was shook when he was diagnosed with a heart condition that is usually only discovered through autopsy, David would not let anything stop his journey, not even open heart surgery. At UCF David was involved in many organizations, one being Project Spit, where he discovered a passion for poetry which led him to winning competitions and even coaching. This week, the exuberant Charlie Reyes, stage name Charliee Royal, joined us in the studio. We could tell by his confidence that he’s comfortable behind the mic. Charlie is a 21 year old Junior at UCF who plans to use his Radio/Television Production education to take as far into the production as possible. Whether it be music, movies, or television shows, Charlie wants in on the action! He’s currently involved with UCF’s Student run sports talk show Hitting the Field. It come to no surprise that this young man has been producing music for over a decade, continually working on his craft. Clothing is also a part of Charlie’s production repertoire, choosing to rock his own brand, Royal Lifestyle, as a way to represent himself when he’s out and about or on stage. This week we’re introducing Marilyn Marin, a 3rd year student here at the University of Central Florida. Marilyn has plans of having a podcast of her own sometime soon, so she reached out to us not only to see the ins and outs of a podcast, but of course, to share her unique story. It didn’t take long for her to open up as her very own podcast will be about uplifting others by helping them find the tools to do so within themselves. Marilyn shared with us the many obstacles she’s overcome, as well as the many blessings she’s realized. Some of these blessing are in the form of the many parental figures she has in her life, each individual one teaching her a different lesson about life. Some of these lessons include forgiveness, compassion, and determination. Along the way we shared some laughs from her story of a vicious beagle attack. This week we had the pleasure of being joined in the studio by the colorfully eccentric Roxanne Martinez. This lovely individual is a 24 year old senior here at UCF majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. Unlike the typical college/university student that tries to balance their time between their social life, coursework and a part time job, Roxanne dedicates her time and efforts making YouTube videos consisting of tutorials for natural hair care, make-up, just how to be unique. She dove deep into her story, telling us about her relationship with her younger sister, her reasons why she believes perspective is everything, and sharing with us her passion for singing. She also treated us to a wonderful short cover to Adele’s “Someone Like You”, which literally took us, especially Anne-Caroline completely by surprise. This week we were in the studio with Olivia Larson, a 20 year old sophomore here at the University of Central Florida. She graced us with her charm, style, and uniqueness. Olivia calls a small Scottish town of Dunedin, Fl home. She explained to us how no where else could feel like home, but she still couldn’t wait to spread her wings and experience more. Olivia is majoring in Business Marketing and hopes to someday be in the realm of fashion. In fact, thrifting happens to be one of her favorite hobbies. With the growing popularity of our podcast by word of mouth around campus, our latest guest reached out to us and we couldn’t have been happier. Joshua Gluck is a 19 year old sophomore with wisdom and a perspective beyond his years. This musically inclined singer/songwriter has an opportunity to make GREAT things happen at UCF. He was just appointed president of UCF’s record label, Joust Record, and plans on making something from nothing. The conversation our hosts, Jeffrey Dorcely and newly added Anne-Caroline Verret, enjoyed went to a spiritual/cosmic level. Josh shared with us his interesting perspective on where Artists like Kendrick Lamar pull their inspiration from, saying “it’s out of this world.” Josh’s interests span farther than just music. Her dream of becoming a rockstar led her to UCF’s new entertainment management program, where she’s learning the ins and outs of the industry she hopes to soon be a part of. Kristin finds inspiration for her music in her everyday life, which makes it all the more relatable. The Deep In The Knight crew hopes everyone had a safe and memorable spring break! Now that we’re all back, lets get right back into the action! This week’s episode features Anne-Caroline Verret, a 19 year old sophomore from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Anne-Caroline made sure that she started her college experience on the right foot by getting involved! Among the myriad of organizations she’s involved with, (CSA, Club Kreyol, Golden Key National Honor Society to name a few) one that stands out in particular was her involvement with the Campus Real Life Church. As Anne-Caroline takes us deeper into her story, her big heart shines! After all, you’ve got to have a big heart to be a full time fur mom. Anne-Caroline opened up to us about the challenges she’s faced here in the United States as a young girl in a different country away from family and friends. This week we’re joined in the studio by Alissa Marie, a 24 year old Junior here at UCF. Alissa doesn’t have a clear picture of her future after UCF but she has iconic ambition!   Alissa shared with us that she was a former student of Stoneman Douglass High School, which was the site of the recent school shooting in Parkland, Fl. She also explained to us her difficult transition from Canada to the United States and the challenge of fitting into a new culture. Soccer and Yoga have played pivotal roles in Alissa’s life, the latter helps her with organizing all the various aspects of life. Hosts Kennedi and Jeff were put on the hot seat as Alissa came ready with questions of her own. This week’s episode is perfect for bringing a close to a historic Black History Month. We were joined in the studio by Mr. UCF himself, Braxton Watson. A Junior here at UCF, Braxton just recently took first place in the 34th annual Mr. and Miss UCF Pageant, earning him the title of Mr. UCF. And although there were many categories scored upon, it was the talent section that  Braxton chose to make a big impact. Using his creativity and an abundance of inspiration, Braxton constructed an artful poem. His words illustrate the emotions of a young black man who has to witness too many instances of inequality. Many of these emotions are shared by people of all backgrounds and cultures. His breakdown and explanations leave you with a clear message of what was on his mind at the time, making it truly his art. This week we had the pleasure of speaking with the smooth Demetrius Moore, a fifth year student here at UCF. His optimism and light hearted humor had us on the edge of our seats with laughter. Right off the bat Demetrius tells us a bit about his entertainment blog called “LIVE MOORE”, which was inspired by a undesirable night downtown. As we got a little deeper into Demetrius’ interview, he revealed to us the motivation behind his drive, his father whom Demetrius himself refers to as Dr. Moore. We almost ventured into deep and dangerous waters but Demetrius decided to steer clear of any conversation about his Ex’s! We were in the studio this week with UCF finance major Justin Nguyen, who delighted us with an interview full of passion and enthusiasm! It could leave you in goosebumps just like it did Justin! We had the pleasure of diving deep into Justin’s story, which included two equally inspiring voyages to the United States by his parents. Justin had an urge to motivate his peers, especially in light of this technological boom we’re fortunate enough to be experiencing. This led him and his team to launch their own movement #GetChoGrindUp, as well as a Podcast titled “Young & D.U.M.B.” (Dedicated, Up and coming, Motivated, Bold). We were lucky enough to have some royalty in the studio with us this week. Kevin Louidor, a 21 year old senior here at UCF, filled us in on what it takes to be King! As Kevin took us deeper into his story, he expressed to us the reason behind the drive to succeed. Heavily influenced by his parents and his desire to help the minority community, Kevin utilized the gifts he’s discovered within himself to give back. Not being a stranger to hard times, Kevin views obstacles as opportunities for improvement. This characteristic is evident when he states that his favorite track event is the 400 meter dash, a race considered by many to be one of the toughest. Kevin focuses his energy into handful of organizations, one being the Non-profit, Tmrwcare, which he currently serves as President. Kevin even tells us of the experience of being seen by the entire student body as homecoming king. Talk about being put on a pedestal!  We are keeping it rolling with our special treats for subscribers! This week we’re kickin’ it with yet another new addition to the Deep in the Knight crew. We’re introducing one of our new hosts, Kennedi Holder, by diving deep into her story. Kennedi, a 20 year old senior from Jacksonville is very involved, taking part in many different organizations. She keeps herself busy by volunteering on campus, but still finds time to enjoy some of the things that are important to her like family and sports. Kennedi is majoring in journalism and does not have a clear vision of whats to come after UCF. However,  what she knows for sure is that wherever life may take her, it had better include traveling, pasta, sports, and more pasta! Kennedi invites listeners to indulge themselves in some of her pleasures, which include 90’s African American sitcoms and Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN album.
