One of the most entertaining people myself and the world has known, Skerrit Bwoy.  Coming out of the Bronx, New York by way of Antigua, he was one of the most popular dancehall selectors in the east coast during the early 2000s.   He then went on to link up with Major Lazer and tour the world as their hype man.   But one day he decided to give all that up and find his way to God, as that brought him internal happiness with himself and his life.   We have a brief discussion regarding all of this in this episode. Kamal Ravikant’s ‘Love Yourself.   Like Your Life Depends on It.’ Has me journaling ‘I Love Myself’ on a daily basis except I swap out the ‘myself’ with ‘Paul’.   I’ve found this practice to be empowering. A quick short read which one can get through in an afternoon if that.   I will link to interviews done with the author, his wikipedia page and website for more of his backstory and why he wrote this book.   Here are some of my biggest takeaways: ‘If you’ve ever been a baby, you’ve experienced love.   The mind knows it on a fundamental, even primal level.   So, unlike most words, “love” has the ability to slip past the conscious and into the subconscious, where magic happens.’ pg 11 ‘What if you don’t believe that you love yourself?   Doesn’t matter.   Your role is to lay down the pathways, brick upon brick, reinforce the connections between the neurons.   The mind already has a strong wiring for love.   The body knows it as well.   It knows that love nurtures, that love is gentle, that love is accepting.  

In this episode I discuss how what you eat, see, say, do, read, and whom you spend time with is a manifestation of who you are.   I talk about how important it is to be selective in what you allow 'in' to yourself on a daily basis, eventually you do become that in some way, shape or form. 13:31 My friend Pru and I, review Peter Berg's latest Deepwater Horizon.   The true story of the oil rig catastrophe which led to the infamous BP oil spill. Magnificent 7!   The 2016 remake starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt.   Directed by Antoine Fuqua.   Jason G., makes another guest appearance on the podcast as he and I break down our pros and cons of this movie.   We both very much enjoyed the film but it wasn't perfect.  Jason gave the movie an overall score of 7.5/10.   I gave it a 8/10.   Dig in, and check out our breakdown. After a year and 8 months, I've decided to begin dating again. I'm missing intimacy in my life, and it would be nice to meet someone. Some days I'd love to be in a relationship, others I'm OK with being single. In this episode I ask if more of us should stay in the dating space rather than be in a relationship. People's needs and wants change over time, doesn't this make them want different people? Is it what has the divorce rate so high across the world? I also detail what I'm looking for in a person. Someone with similar interests and direction would be the dream scenario. Also someone into health and fitness as I spend a lot of my time focusing in those areas.   No smokers, social drinkers are OK.   Finally no rushing into things, which I've been guilty of doing so in the past.   Would love to hear what your opinion, thoughts. The ‘Fred Factor’ by Mark Sanborn.   With this book I realized, I enjoy the more personal self-improvement books and not really the ones pertaining to business.   This book definitely plays to both, but more so on the business side of things. In listening to various entrepreneurial podcasts, two of the bigger points echoed across the board, build relationships and  add value.   This book tells you point by point on how to do that.   These may seem like common sense, but I prefer it to be spelled out and these are my absolute biggest takeaways from reading the ‘Fred Factor’.  This was another book that was in Evan Carmicheal’s Youtube video 7 Books Every Entrepreneur Must Read. Here are some golden nuggets from the book: ‘Fred is more likely living proof that there is another less observable competitor:  the job we could have done.   The truth is that we compete against our own potential every day.   And most of us fall short of what we are capable of doing or being.’ pg

I enjoy his stance on going to college and owning a home.   Truth be told, I sometimes think my voice sounds like his voice when I'm recording my own podcast. Of all the books I've read so far, in this 'Biggest Takeaways' series, this one made me emotional at times and made me day dream the most.   The parts especially when he discusses saying 'No' to situations that make you feel bad (even though we still willingly participate in these situations)and the 'Rebirth' exercise.   The last chapter was my favorite.   Specifically when they discussed reinventing yourself.
