Preachin' On Preacher: At The Movies

Last week we talked about a holocaust epic and while we were positively mesmerised and strongly impacted by Schindler's List, we struggled to make jokes during the film portion of the podcast - something which is understandable if slightly impractical for what is usually a comedy show. This week we went in the polar opposite direction and talked about Sharknado. Luckily, there was plenty to make fun of in this bloody stupid film. It was like shooting a proverbial fish in a barrel, in fact.    For part 2, we talked about the optimum length for a movie, with conclusions lying in the type of genre that the movie actually is - unless it's The Wolf of Wall Street, anything over 2 hours is generally a pretty bad idea for a comedy!    For the next episode, we're turning the clock back 10 years, so the question of the week is:   2007: what are your memories on it? So this week, things got heavy with Schindler's List; a film which none of us had actually seen before. This week on the show, we watched a terrible film so you don't have to and subsequently ripped it to shreds. With the recent release of the Nintendo Switch, we decided to tackle the only live action movie adapted from a Nintendo game to date: Super Mario Bros. Several of the many things wrong with the film are discussed in detail, with perhaps the only redeeming factor generally agreed as being the two lead actors' performances. This week, Super Mario Bros got a raincheck in favour of Apollo 13, given Bill Paxton's untimely passing. The talk on the movie ranged from the true nature of the story, to space exploration in general, to asking why man hasn't landed on the moon since 1972.   The question of the week meanwhile, was on this years Oscar results. This week was a rather hungover podcast, since we were all on the sesh on the previous night to this recording. Still, we managed to cobble together an episode including dissections of the 1964 comedy classic Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb as well as this years Academy Award nominees.
