  • Pomella Restaurant Executive Chef Mica Talmor

    14/01/2022 Duration: 32min

Send us a textThis conversation was a real treat! Mica welcomed us into her beautiful, bright, and cozy restaurant, Pomella (on Piedmont Ave in Oakland), and quickly offered us Baileys and coffee. You can say it was love at first site. The conversation flowed as smoothly as our coffees as we got into why she moved to the Bay from Israel, starting her career in catering, the essence of Israeli food, the ups and downs of owning a business with her now ex-husband, bankruptcy, opening a second restaurant at the start of the pandemic, and how her community, regular customers, and loyal employees keep her going. She is fiery and hilarious, and we could've spent the entire day chatting with her. And we can't forget to mention, the food was AMAZING! (Order the cheese stuffed falafel. You're welcome.) Check out her restaurant, and if you're lucky, you'll get a chance to meet her too.You can follow Pomella Restaurant on IG & FB--Thanks for listening and for your support! We couldn't ha

  • San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin

    08/12/2021 Duration: 27min

Send us a textOver here at Bitch Talk, we were very happy to welcome San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin onto the podcast. If you're not familiar with him, here's the basics. In 2019, Chesa Boudin ran for the open seat of District Attorney of SF and won by a narrow margin. Chesa ran on a progressive platform talking about the elimination of cash bail, ending mass incarceration, and eliminating racial bias in the criminal justice system. While he was running for office as well as after he won, his very vocal (and heavily funded) opponents have turned to not one, but two recall attempts (the first failed to get enough signatures) to remove him from office for purely political reasons. In our opinion, he's been scapegoated on topics such as car break-ins, theft, and the increase in San Francisco's unhoused population. Hello! Remember that little ol' global pandemic that we all are living through? Anyway, if this recall succeeds, San Francisco Mayor London Breed would appoint a r

With 600+ episodes, we're excited to revisit some of our favorites with our new listeners (and maybe new to our regular listeners). We're bringing you back to the Sundance Film Festival of 2021, where we discussed a local story directed by San Franciscan Debbie Lum. Her film, Try Harder!  focuses on  Lowell High School - a public school that kids have to test into - and a handful of students that are (and sometimes their parents) obsessed with getting into Ivy League colleges. • Anti-Racist Scholar and Educator, Kate Slater

    24/11/2021 Duration: 47min

Send us a textKate Slater is a white, anti-racist scholar and educator in a time where America's racial reckoning and call for justice has been heard across the nation and the world. She leads facilitation's and training's for both students as well as private organizations, and her passion for this work is palpable. We've rarely spoken to someone so fired up, and we jump right into how she got into this field of work, and when she first realized the depths of systemic racism (and her role within it). She discusses the difference between being non-racist and anti-racist, white privilege, individualism versus collectivism, the gaps in the American education system that she's trying to fill, and the fear mongering of critical race theory. But this summary is just the tip of the iceberg, you'll have to listen to find out more about Kate's work, and how she manages to do this while eight and a half months pregnant and with a toddler at home! You can follow Kate Slater on IG &

  • A Place to Breathe with Michelle Grace Steinberg and Robyn Bykofsky

    17/11/2021 Duration: 28min

Send us a textA Place to Breathe is a documentary that "explores the universality of trauma and resilience through the eyes of immigrant and refugee healthcare practitioners and patients". It provides an important glimpse into the heinous crimes that have happened (and continue to happen) around the world that have led people to escape their homes and seek refuge, and the people that run the organizations and clinics created to help them heal. We sat down with director/producer Michelle Grace Steinberg and producer Robyn Bykofsky about their process in choosing which stories to highlight, how medical care is so much more than just physical, the healing power of cultural festivals and events, the unnecessary loopholes that immigrants/refugees need to go through, and the ultimate goal for their production company, Underexposed Films. We thank them for their work, and for sharing this story in such a critical time in our country.Click here to see where you can watch A Place to BreatheYou can follow the

We were blown away by not only the amount of Filipino stories, but also the diversity of stories that we've covered in just the past 12 months.
