  • Max Fried shines in rain as Braves offense heats up

    27/08/2024 Duration: 04min

Headed in to Tuesday night, Atlanta Braves starting pitcher had not won a game in his last seven starts. The Braves offense, headed by first baseman Matt Olson by putting up nine runs in the first two innings, with Olson driving in five of those. Then the rains came. After an 86 minute rain delay, Max Fried told Braves manager Brian Snitker that he wanted to go back in the game, and Snitker obliged. Fried ended up going five innings in totality while giving up only one earned run, and the Braves bullpen was able to hold on for a 10-6 victory. This was a huge win for Max Fried, who since returning from the IL has slowly but surely increased his workload and gets a much deserved win. While Olson did most of the heavy lifting for the Braves offense, an unsung hero of Monday night’s game was second baseman Whit Merrifield, who went five for five at the plate and scored twice. This presents a unique opportunity for the Braves once Ozzie Albies comes back, as Merrifield has hit right around .400 since joining the c

  • Falcons and Jaguars clearly had different objectives Friday night

    26/08/2024 Duration: 05min

The Atlanta Falcons played their last preseason game of the 2024 season Friday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and it was a mixed result game to say the least. The Falcons lost the game 31-0, but it was not really a “fair” competition. Mostly in part to both teams having distinctly different objectives for the game. The Falcons did not play any starters in this game, nor did they play many of them in any other preseason games. They used the last preseason game to see who was going to make the team, a tryout in a sense. The Jaguars, on the other hand, did play their starters. Trevor Lawrence threw two touchdowns in the lopsided game, as it looked like the Jaguars were trying to iron out a few wrinkles in their last game against an NFL team before the season starts in two weeks. Even though the Falcons got beaten by thirty-one, they may not have been ones to take the biggest loss on Friday night… that would have been the fans. Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael discuss the Falcons last preseason game and t

  • Braves pitching may be enough to propel playoff run

    23/08/2024 Duration: 07min

The Braves were able to complete the series win versus the Philadelphia Phillies with a 3-2 win Thursday night. Yet again, the Braves were able to squeak just enough offense across the board to seal the victory thanks to more stellar pitching. Rookie Spencer Schwellenbach went 6.2 innings as the starting pitcher while giving up only two earned runs and striking out nine Phillies. On the back end, closer Raisel Iglesias closed out the game with three strikeouts of the Phillies three, four, and five hitters. For those counting at home, that is thirty-five straight hitters that Iglesias has sat down over his last eleven outings. Minus losing who was that Braves best pitcher last year, pitching has been outstanding for the team this year, and as Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael discuss, it may just be enough to take them on a nice playoff run.

  • Braves will be on outside of playoff picture if they can't manufacture runs

    22/08/2024 Duration: 04min

Another great outing by Max Fried, and another lead squandered. Fried went seven innings Wednesday night while surrendering only two runs versus the Philadelphia Phillies, but it was not enough. The Phillies were able to turn a couple of base hits in to a few runs and won the game 3-2, something that the Braves have struggled mightily with this season. Granted, the Braves have been taken off of the game that this lineup is built for, POWER, by several key injuries. This does not mean that the Braves should be folding though, and are refusing to throw in the white towel, but the small cushion that they have over the New York Mets over the last wild card playoff spot is shrinking, and could be lost if the Braves cannot figure out how to create runs the old fashioned way. Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael discuss the Braves and how they need to finish the season strong if they want to continue playing in October.
