Chatting With Sherri welcomes back writer; Elaine Midcoh! Elaine Midcoh lives in Pembroke Pines, Florida. At age 8, she wrote to NASA asking to be an astronaut, but was rejected. Undeterred, she penned her first book which featured a young girl as NASA’s first child astronaut. Yes, the kid’s name was Elaine. To seal the deal she bought herself a Jr. Astronaut medal which she still wears on special occasions. Later, when adulthood loomed, she diverted to law school, became an attorney and spent many happy years teaching college students about Criminal Justice and the Bill of Rights, while still writing an occasional tale. These days Elaine spends time at her kitchen table thinking up short stories and poetry. In 2019, she was spotted dancing in front of her living room window after learning one of her stories earned an Honorable Mention in the Writers of the Future Contest. Colin (Xiaomeng) Zhang has always had a keen interest in art. However, science fiction movies captured his imagination, and he started to imitate scenes and characters he saw in those films.  He attended the Academy of Art in San Francisco to conduct his own comprehensive art research. It was a valuable opportunity to meet creatively talented artists with similar interests. After graduating from university, he worked in animation, video game development, and as a graphic designer.  His love for digital painting is reflected in his creativity. He uses his spare time to paint and study different styles of artistic creation. In the subsequent work, his ideas often brought unexpectedly desirable results for his company.  His work has been presented in several art magazines. His debut novel, The Nancys, won Best First Novel in 2020 Ngaio Marsh Awards, as well as a finalist in the Best Novel category, and it was shortlisted for Best First Novel in 2020 Ned Kelly Awards. His second novel, Nancy Business, a sequel to The Nancys was published in June 21, and was a finalist in 2022 Ngaio Marsh Awards for Best Novel. It is no secret that one of my all time favorite sitcoms was Bewitched!  I loved it and I have had the pleasure to interview people who share that love.  This week I am chatting with Mark Simpson who created and hosts the  Bewitched Fan Fan, last year they went to Salem, they are planning the next one for next year! As a scientist, Arthur Doweyko has authored 140+ scientific publications, invented novel 3D drug design software, and shares the 2008 Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award for the discovery of Sprycel, a new anti-cancer drug. He writes and illustrates science fiction, fantasy, and horror. His debut novel, Algorithm, garnered a 2010 Royal Palm Literary Award (RPLA) and was published by E-Lit Books in October, 2014. His second novel, As Wings Unfurl, took first place as Best Science Fiction in the 2014 RPLA competition and was released in 2016 by Red Adept Publishing. Chatting With Sherri welcomes award-winning artist and illustrator Zaine Lohdi! Zaine Lohdi  was born in 1999 in the seaside tourist town of Sarasota, Florida. He feels as if his path as an illustrator was predestined—he has known the trajectory of his life since childhood. Zaine was surrounded by incredible fantasy art from a young age, collecting Magic: The Gathering cards and whatever comics he could get his hands on. The art of Frank Frazetta, Alex Ross, and Gerald Brom were pivotal in his stylistic development. Zaine is currently studying illustration with a visual development (concept art) focus at Ringling College of Art and Design. He placed the most importance on programs that value an unwavering work ethic and emphasize preparation for the workforce. Em Dupre’s present incarnation largely believes she was born on the wrong planet and writes all manner of speculative fiction, with or without permission. “The Greater Good” began in Orson Scott Card’s literary boot camp in 2013. She has been published in Daily Science Fiction and won the first prize for flash fiction in the UA Anthology Obvious Things. About “The Greater Good,” Em says, “I’ve always been interested in the concept of justice and knowing that the world may change, but humans and their base desires remain the same.
