The London native made a name for herself working her way up the youth ranks at Chelsea, one of the world's premier clubs. She then made her way to the U.S. and Arizona State, developing into a top-tier striker that led the entire NCAA in goals last season. Heading into her final year, she has eyes on further elevating the ASU program as she makes her mark on the pitch and in team history. What’s better than one homegrown star linebacker? TWO homegrown star linebackers.   This fall, Arizona State fans will get to see something special. For the last few seasons, Kyle Soelle has emerged as one of the more productive and unsung linebackers in the Pac-12. And this season, he will likely be joined in the starting lineup by his younger brother Connor. Their love of ASU began as kids, with goals set to one day become one of the Sun Devils they watched play. That mission was accomplished when Connor joined Kyle at ASU in 2019, and now as Kyle gears up for a final season in Tempe, he’ll get to play alongside his brother—who’s poised for a breakout of his own.   On this episode, Kyle, Connor, and I discuss what it means to play alongside each other for their hometown university, the pride they carry with them as homegrown players, how deep their brotherly competitive streak runs, what to expect out of the defense this fall, and so much more.

After the competition to replace Jayden Daniels went unresolved after spring practices, Arizona State brought in a big name transfer to the battle. In an unusual move these days, Emory Jones waited for his turn at Florida, and became the Gators' starter a year ago. While it was a challenging season for the Gators, Jones had some impressive moments. When Florida made a coaching change following the year, Jones entered the portal and decided to come west to Tempe. It’s one of those “Where were you when?” moments for any Sun Devil. The Jael Mary is one of the most iconic plays in Arizona State history, but it was just one of many big moments for the play’s namesake, Jaelen Strong. He went from a junior college transfer to one of most productive players in school history. His future was bright...but injuries and some humbling lessons cut short his NFL career. There were some hard times, but Jaelen battled, grew, and healed—both physically and mentally. He’s since become a strong advocate for the importance of mental health, something that so often in sports gets tossed to the side or is viewed as weakness, rather than the strength that it is. He also mentoring and coaching the next generation of receivers here in the Valley, passing on his on-field techniques and hard-earned off-field life lessons. A lot of attention has been paid, and rightly so, on the number of key departures the Sun Devil football program has seen over this offseason. But let's not lose sight of the talent that is returning to Tempe. With some key roles to fill, many of these players are poised for a breakout campaign. Among those is defensive back Jordan Clark. Jordan, the son of former Steelers safety Ryan Clark, is entering his fourth year as a Sun Devil. He's seen increasing playing time over that span, and he has also emerged as one of the team's key leaders.
