To activate the Valley, Arizona State needs leaders who know it well and coaches who know what it takes to establish a winning program. Charlie Ragle helped build Moon Valley High School into a state champion as an assistant before taking the reins at Chaparral and leading a powerhouse program. While there, he helped guide a young 17-year-old kid named Kenny Dillingham into coaching. Ragle would then go on to coach at two Pac-12 schools before being named Idaho State's head coach last season. But when Dillingham was named ASU's head coach, the opportunity to come back to the desert and help him rebuild the Sun Devil program was too good to pass up. On this episode, we discuss why he gave up a head coaching job to come back to the Valley, how he set Dillingham on the path to coaching, the staff's plans to activate the Valley, local recruiting strategy, and so much more.

The portal gives, and the portal takes. Heading into last season, Bobby Hurley brought in several newcomers to help get the Arizona State basketball program back on track. Among them was a guard from Illinois State. And like he had been for much of his career, he may have been overlooked...but not for long. By season's end, DJ Horne was ASU's leading scorer and a name to be known throughout the Pac-12. Heading into this season, Horne is a cornerstone piece of the Sun Devil program, and as both the top scorer and a returner, he's grown into a leadership role with the squad. After a few disappointing seasons, Bobby Hurley’s Sun Devil basketball program is looking to get back in the NCAA Tournament mix. As part of a revamped roster, Hurley brought in a player who knows exactly what it takes to get there. Frankie Collins was a former top-50 national recruit who spent his freshman season at Michigan. After a year as a reserve on the Wolverines’ Sweet Sixteen squad, he entered the portal and opted to return west. The talented point guard is now looked at as a key piece in ASU’s hopes to go dancing.
