Today's memory is for me. With the death of Walter Cronkite, I thought it would be fun to listen to one of the attractions in which he had been featured, The Magic of Disney Animation. Today's audio is from 1998, and not that great, but it's one of the only recordings out there that I know of. So today’s request came from 2 people. First was Jason and his family from Ramsey, MN: Our family (wife and daughter (age 8)) really enjoy listening and reliving the happy memories of our past trips. We especially like the Carousel of Progress memory. We are wondering if you would be willing or able to do a Jungle Cruise memory? I later received this request from Lottie in Wiltshire, England: I would like to request a well loved ride for you to release. I really like Jungle Cruise, and the way the tour guides crack their' own personal jokes that makes the ride that little bit different and special each time. The ride includes lots of fun scenarios that I can never get enough of, and I consider it as one of my most entertaining rides in the whole of WDW. So today’s request came from both Andrew and Silvio. Andrew wrote: next time you go back to WDW can u get a recording of Expedition Everest. It has to be my favorite ride in all of WDW because of how dark it is when you go backwards. i love the g-forces, because that’s just what i am known for. but the drop is just as amazing. it was my first big roller coaster.And Silvio said: The sound is just great. Today’s request came from Brian Hendricks of Springfield, IL. He wrote: I have a MAJOR request: I would LOVE to hear the "Impressions de France" movie at Epcot. It is a classic, and it was one of the inspirations behind my choosing France as the honeymoon site for me and my wife 5 years ago. Even if I can never get a video copy of this movie, the music of "Impressions de France" is the main reason I am requesting it. It is outstanding. In fact, Disney had received so many questions about the music for this movie that they issued a memo / press release that showed all the titles that were used. Alright, it’s been almost a month, and I’ve been slacking off. I’m sorry. In any case, today’s Memory is a good one. It was requested by Kirsty of Norwich, England. She wrote in and said: My request is not a ride or an attraction, so to say, its more of entertainment; my request is the Dapper Dans. Again, during my recent visit, we saw these guys for the first time, on the last day of our holiday. They were so great, even posing for photos while they were singing! 12 Days of Christmas, Memory 12, Magic Kingdom Christmas Tree Lighting: On the night of our Anniversary in December 2006, we had a bit of time before our dinner reservations at the California Grille, so we rode the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom and caught the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony that occurs at the head of Main Street. 12 Days of Christmas, Memory 11, Epcot Candlelight Service: Today we’re going to attend the Epcot Candlelight service. It’s a beautiful evening and we take our seats in the middle of the theater near the trees. Our guest host tonight is one of mine (and Traci’s) favorite Christian artists, Steven Curtis Chapman. 12 Days of Christmas, Memory 10, 4 For a Dollar: As we exited the backstage tour, what do my wondering ears should hear but 4 men singing in perfect harmony. That’s right 4 For A Dollar was performing in the flatbread grille area, to a less than enthusiastic crowd. Traci and I quickly high-tail it over and take a seat near the front. The guys sing 3 more songs to which Traci and I are quite amazed. Afterwards, all four of them walk over to us and chat with us for about 2 minutes (which you’ll get to hear at the end of the recording). Fortunately for us, nobody else was really paying them much attention, because they are one of the best musical groups in all of Walt Disney World, and we got almost a private showing. 12 Days of Christmas, Memory 08, Father Christmas: In the UK, things are a little more traditional. Father Christmas comes around the corner, singing on a bright and beautiful December day in 2006. He starts by getting a volunteer, which proves harder than it sounds. Then he gets back to his story of Father Christmas, the Christmas card, and Mistletoe. 12 Days of Christmas, Memory 07, Pere Noel: Today we’re seated in France, awaiting the arrival of Pierre Noel on a bright and sunny December morning in 2006. As he arrives, everyone notices, he looks like Santa, but he lost a bit of weight. He tells us the story of Babette and the Santons. 12 Days of Christmas, Memory 05, Daruma Vendor: Today we learn about New Years in Japan, and how the Daruma will bring you luck in the new year. It’s a little over cast today, and we only got there just as she was starting her sales pitch, so we will begin right as she starts. 12 Days of Christmas, Memory 04, La Befana: Like yesterday, we missed the start of this story, partially because we couldn’t find where she was. We turn around into a bright December sun in 2006, and there she is in the middle of the plaza. We probably only missed the first couple of minutes, and I regret this, because she was really quite good. Anyways, she will share with us her story of missing her chance to meet the Baby Jesus, and that she continues to look for him every year. 12 Days of Christmas, Memory 03, Germany: As we begin today’s journey, we arrive a little late to Germany to catch our story teller. It’s a beautiful evening in December 2006 as we run up to get there a minute after the story teller has started. She is telling us about how a traditional Christmas time is spent. 12 Days of Christmas, Memory 02, The Monkey King: We will visit the Monkey King in Epcot’s China pavilion on a beautiful evening in December 2006. The sun is setting, and the sky is beautiful. We hear the Monkey King approaching from our left, and of course sees me standing there with my video camera and has to say hello. Then he takes his place in the plaza in front of the Sun Palace. Each day, from now through Christmas day, I will be releasing a short podcast with minimal editing, and taking you directly to a special holiday treat, something that can be found at Walt Disney World during the Holiday season. 12 Days of Christmas, Memory 01, The Three Kings: We're going to start our 12 Days of Christmas in Epcot at the Mexico Pavilion. It's a warm morning in December 2006, and the sun is shining bright. We arrive outside the Mexico pavilion and strike up a conversation with the handler for our special hosts. All of a sudden, we hear the voices behind us, and the 3 Magical Kings walk right by us up to the stage in the front, where they begin to tell us about how Christmas is celebrated in Mexico, with traditions, folklore, and parties.
