Convicted Cinephiles

Our panel intends to shake the Michaela induced nightmares of the last couple episodes and dive into a new wholesome and family oriented subject. That's right, this time around it's all Disney, hand drawn Disney films to be precise. Together, with their guest Slam Poet Rachel Taylor, our Cinephiles reminisce about the impact of these movies on their childhoods and expose Disney's dark side and subjects that were best left alone. So come and sing along because, hell, this is as family friendly as we get!

The Cinephiles are going classic this episode and are bringing out the cult films, some with bigger followings than others. Adam Baldwin from The Jeff O'Neill Show joins our panel and brings a masterpiece of music and car crashes, all along a "mission from God." Stevil finally gets to play his favorite movie of all time and doesn't get the reception he wanted. Matty gets to set past episode wrongs right again with his pick and Michaela floors the group again with another choice that is so messed up, we had a hard time even finding a teaser picture for our Instagram. This episode the Cinephiles are going beyond the fall of man into the world of desolation and despair. Our crossover with Gamers Under the Stairs continues as Michael Lothian and Aaron Grav join us for video game movie talk. Matty and Michael bring the exact same staff pick to start things out on the wrong foot, then each of the movie picks rubs at least one panel member the wrong way. Just in time for the return of the king of all monsters to the big screen, we are taking on monster movies with the help of JJ Webb. Stevil proudly brings the original blockbuster to the group and Michaela almost started a frenzied fight over ownership of her pick. Matty creates a collective nostalgia with his movie and may or may not have watched it numerous times before he even watch any others. We'd tell you about JJ's but, really, it just makes us sick to think about. So get to safe ground and tune in, it may just save your life! 

It's about time for the Cinephiles to talk about the most nominated actress ever and we have Slam Poet Rachel along to help us out. Michaela manages to sneak another Cher movie by Stevil, Matty is bored by his own choice, Rachel continues her Convicted Cinephiles pick dominance and Stevil outright hates his own pick and so did everyone else. We also debut a brand new segment complete with a ridiculous theme song. Keep calm and Streep on!  

This week we aim to blow minds as Kevin Taylor and Justin Delima from Striker: The Web Series join our panel for the discussion of some of a few of the greatest plot twists in movies. Michaela comes armed with the mother of all twists, Matty has the most brutal and thoroughly disturbing one, Stevil starts to doubt the validity of his own choice and the Striker guys bring a pick that passed by Stevil and Michaela which flabbergasts them. Points for the word flabbergast!! Enjoy the twist and do your research if you haven't seen these flicks! Spoilers within...

This episode was a torurous ordeal to go through, and we extend our experienced darkness to you in this week's theme, "I can't believe I paid for that!" In Development's Eric Kimelton is back for what may be his final episode, but at least he brought the top film of the bunch. Matty's pick will attempt to convert you and we have no idea what was going on in Michaela's choice. We'd say enjoy, but we know you won't.

On this episode recorded days after the Academy Awards, Seve, Matty and Michaela are joined by Kyle and Eric, the creators of the popular webseries In Development. The crew goes through the list of winners and losers, and things are said that cannot be unsaid. 

It's that time of the year again, time to gather around your TV to see those golden guys get handed out. It got us to thinking about all the interesting Best Picture winners over time. Kyle Brown joins us this week, mere miles away from the red carpet, and we talk about four fantastic films from some of the greatest directors in the biz. Joins us for some Oscar gold!

Jstebz continues her tour of the League of Manchildren podcasts, joining the panel this week for a discussion of some of her favorite movies. Her first pick ignites a feeling so strong in Matty Dubs, he utters a phrase that almost ends the show. After Jstebz regains her composure, she explains all the ways Bob Hoskins is a creep, and Michaela is concerned about the portrayal of mental illness in movies. We've just been Boss Bitch'd!

The Holy Trinity returns this week for the theme: Musicians Turned Actors. The guys are unhappy with Michaela's choice, Moonstruck, and are quick to point out that perhaps she is a bit biased. Stevil comes close to shedding a tear over Everything is Illuminated and Matty hates everything, including his own choice, Indepenence Day. Yeah, lots of angry ID4 talk in this one. That's amore! 

Convicted Cinephiles starts up their first recording of 2014 with a bang as they welcome LLOYD KAUFMAN, the man behind Troma Films joins us to celebrate 40 years of Troma film magic. Stevil, Matty (but you can call him Walter) and DemiGodRob chat with Lloyd about Return to Nuke 'Em High, the state of independant film and Cannes controversy. In their last episode of 2013, The Cinephiles could think of no better way to end the year than to talk about their favorite Christmas movies. Troy joins the show and gets romantic; and Matty is pretty serious about Die Hard; and Michaela just can't get into the Christmas spirit. As always Steve's just happy to be here, and pretend this episode came out a month ago.

It's all about family here at Convicted Cinephiles. Kyle Brown from In Development and The Make Believe Picture Company joins the panel to talk about films with a family connection. Michaela saddens Kyle and Steve with her feelings about their personal hero, Matty loves Walken's hair and somwhere in there they talk about the movies. 

JJ skypes into this week's episode for a candid chat about some horror gems from the 80s. The panel is divided between campy and serious scare flicks, with Matty and Michaela bringing the "brains" to the show, JJ serves up a sci-fi classic and Steve's choice has a little Twilight sparkle. Strap on your flamethrower and get ready for more neon than your eyes can handle. Thrill me!

It's a special episode this week as we welcome our good friend Patrick Gilmore to the show to talk about a series close to his heart, the Indiana Jones saga. From the high points to the Crystal Skull, our panel covers it all, even giving the ultimate Indy cast plug. This one's of full of fan-boy squees and purist criticisms, so find yourself a Short-Round and join us on this adventure.

The Cinephiles explore their dastardly side in the cave this week as they bring Slam Poet Rachel along for an in-depth discussion on villains. Michaela brings a sweet-talking hunter, Steve settles with a decidedly less than brilliant foe, Rachel just wants to watch the whole world burn, and Matty's villain arguably not one. Matty, Michaela and Steve go for a Walk-and-Talk with some of Aaron Sorkin's best movies. Opening with universal classic, A Few Good Men and then on to the story of how the internet became useful for stalking exes, The Social Network. Steve ends up spending a lot of time defending Moneyball until Miley shows up, and it is decided that watching someone speak perfect dialogue can be awesome and annoying.

The cinephiles delve into literature this week as they tear a page out of their favorite book-to-film adaptations. Matty continues to shorten the time limitations of giving spoilers and isn't silent about how bored he was during Michaela's choice. Steve basically makes love to his pick and all three have nothing but praise for Tarantino. So jump on in, but make sure you read the book first, it's probably better.
