Welcome to the 2013/2014 School Year Sampler!

This song speaks of candles being lit one by one in countries all over the world until "the lights all shine as one" and "the journey to peace has begun." This will be a very powerful and moving moment in your concert.

In this powerful arrangement, Teresa Jennings has created a work that can serve equally well as an opener or a finale for your Christmas programs. Designed for plenty of flexibility, it can be performed in unison, two or three parts, and even has an optional solo soprano descant part.

Here's a non-traditional arrangement of a traditional Christmas carol. The melody is pretty much as you know it, but there is an optional solo and a simple, catchy optional part 2. (from Music K-8, Vol. 22, No. 2)

Of course, we all want to “save the world”… but sometimes we don’t know how. This song acknowledges that difficulty. Moreover, it exhorts focusing on our immediate vicinity, neighborhoods, friends, schools, etc., and doing the good we already know in our own personal contexts.

As we typically do with our all-school revues, we bring you at least one song that is easy enough to use with your youngest singers, should you wish to include them in the revue, too. For Hungry To Learn, that song is “I Want To Know.” Despite the simplicity of the melody and words, this tune is a lot of fun, so we think older students will enjoy it, too.

The opening song for the revue, “Hungry To Learn” shares the title of the revue. It’s a rock tune with a bit of a retro groove, punctuated by some fun and funky winds (a.k.a. horn band). The lyrics are deliberately simple, but strong.

If you are working with a reward system tied to your recorder method, you know that sometimes it is a while between rewards, so there is a chance for waning interest. Enter White Belt Dojo. This new collection of graded, easy songs is ideal for using these systems, like the belt system in our extremely popular method, Recorder Karate. Songs include: "Thunder Hawk," "ACcelerate," "Bumblebee Bop," "Chillaxin'," "Flutter By, Butterfly," "Luna Kahuna," "Lightspeed Caterpillar," "Renaissance Circle Dance," and "Juba Jump."

In this kit, we combine these great resources for teachers everywhere. As a matter of fact, there is so much content here that we are breaking it into two jam-packed volumes, the first of which we are releasing this year. It stands on its own, as did each column, and is a must for teachers at any point in their careers.
