The Sunday before Lent, we begin a new Lenten series, Spiritual Combat. We will consider our present battle with the devil (principalities and powers), the flesh (the old self) and the world (the fallen complex of life apart from Christ). Today, we reflect on the goal, transformation in Christ, by considering the Transfiguration of Christ and our transfiguration (metamorphosis) referred to in Romans 12.

As Christ was presented in the Temple, 40 days after his birth, the prophetic church is prefigured, foreshadowed in the ministries of Simeon and Anna the Prophetess. Blessed Epiphanytide! This talk reflects on Ash Wednesday's call to repentance, generosity, prayer, and fasting (Matthew 6:1-8; 16-21). Fr. Michael calls St. Aidan's to begin preparations for a more devout Lenten practice of prayer and fasting for deepening mercy-mindedness. Our hearts are changed firstly by asking the Father to ... "create in us a clean heart" to transform us more and more unto Christlikeness. We ask the Father to make us mercy-givers, to be mercy-minded, as is our Father.
