  • The Church Comes Home - 8. Our Bodies Tell the Story - Fr. Michael Flowers

    27/09/2021 Duration: 22min

During the summer, we’ve explored how to transition from the I-Life to the We-life, what life together in Christ looks like. Last week we emphasized what holds young and old together in the Body of Christ. Last week’s Psalm 145 v.4 One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. v.12-13 The people of God shall “make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations (from generation to generation). How does his dominion endure from generation to generation? What links us together, young and old? Today’s Psalm 100 provides another insight. V. 5 The Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness endures throughout all generations. Other versions translate… HIS TRUTH ENDURES FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION What links us together is not affinities, gender, race, class, or any form of identity politics. His truth

    26/08/2021 Duration: 33min

Stand, Pray, Forgive Mark 11:12-25 - Jesus Curses the Fig Tree 12 On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry. 13 And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 And he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it. Jesus Cleanses the Temple 15 And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 16 And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. 17 And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.” 18 And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and were seeking a way to destroy him, for they feared him, because a

Ephesians 4:17-24 17 Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. 18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. 19 They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. 20 But that is not the way you learned Christ!— 21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 to put off your old self,[f] which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

  • 6. Navigating Through Storms - We-Life Series - Fr. Michael Flowers 08.01.21

    02/08/2021 Duration: 27min

Mark 4:35-41 35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” Ephesians 4:11-32 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of th

  • Speaking The Truth in Storms - We-Life-Series - Fr. Michael Flowers - 07.25.21

    28/07/2021 Duration: 29min

Icon: St. Peter and St. Paul Mark 6:45-52 45 Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray. 47And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land. 48And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them, 49but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, 50for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” 51And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded, 52for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened. Ephesians 4:1-16 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to

  • 4. Cultivating A Deeply Loving Community - We-Life Series - Fr. Michael Flowers 07.18.21

    21/07/2021 Duration: 37min

I Peter 1:22 - 2:10 22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. 4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

  • 3. An Appeal For Christocentric Community - We-Life-Series - Fr. Michael Flowers 07.04.21.MP3

    06/07/2021 Duration: 34min

Philippians 2:1-13 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord, and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a] 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,[b] 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[c] being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the e

  • The Mystery of the Trinity & the Human Person - Fr. Michael Flowers - Trinity Sunday 05.30.21

    31/05/2021 Duration: 28min

The mystery of the Trinity has been likened to the mystery of the human person. As with our knowledge of God, we meet our limits on knowing ourselves and those closest to us. We see this in the various schools of psychology. The search to know and understand ourselves seems endless. St. Paul provides an insightful priestly blessing to the Church in Thessaloniki. "Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" I Thess. 5:23. Made in the image of God, we too have a trinitarian makeup. And, I believe, we too are a mystery. The search for our true identity can only be found in our relationship with the Holy Trinity. Apart from the biblical revelation of God and the human person, all anthropologies fail us. Fr. Michael Flowers Icon by Andrey Rublev

  • The Holy Spirit Unites the Cosmos - Pentecost Sunday Fr. Michael Flowers - 05.24.21

    24/05/2021 Duration: 20min

The ancient Jewish harvest feast of Pentecost was fulfilled with the coming of the Holy Spirit on all flesh. The harvest of wheat became a harvest of humanity. Once with divided tongues and cultures manifesting in racism, sexism, ageism, and classism, the Holy Spirit heals the split in creation, restoring creation to integrity. This is seen in the first part of Peter's prophetic sermon. He takes various OT passages and concludes, that which was is now. Let's begin with Acts 2:16f. 16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel: 17 “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; 18 even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy. 19 And I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke; 20 t

  • The Joy Of the Trinity & the Church - Ascension Sunday - Fr. Michael Flowers 05.16.21

    18/05/2021 Duration: 31min

Icon: Ivanka Demchuk John 17:11-26 11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.[a] 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them[b] in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself,[c] that they also

  • The Obedience Of Abiding Love - Fr. Derek Metcalf 05.09.21

    11/05/2021 Duration: 44min

John 15:1-17 1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my

  • Transformative Relationships - Fr. Michael Flowers 5th Sunday Of Easter - 05.02.21

    04/05/2021 Duration: 32min

I John 3:11-24 11 For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12 We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. 13 Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. 15 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17 But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. 19 By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; 20 for whenever our heart conde
