CEO of Autism Together on "Autism Gold Awards"

A hero may have helped out in an emergency or stepped in when no-one else was prepared to, to help a family in distress. A hero may be a kind shopkeeper, a patient bus driver or a friendly swimming instructor. A hero may have made a point of getting to know someone on the autism spectrum and become a friend. Their friendship may mean the world to that person. Autism Together is calling for members of the public to nominate community heroes for its Autism Gold awards. The Awards are part of the charity’s golden anniversary celebrations and winners will be announced at a gala ball at the Shankly hotel in Liverpool in November.

Everton's new mental health hub "Peoples Place"
08/08/2018 Duration: 16minEverton Football Club and its official charity, Everton in the Community, have launched a new mental health focused campaign to raise funds to build a permanent facility – called ‘The People’s Place’ - in conjunction with local charity Chasing the Stigma. The ‘People’s Place’ campaign has the backing and support of Everton CEO Professor Denise Barrett-Baxendale, first team manager Marco Silva and support from the first team squad . Jake Mills, founder of Chasing the Stigma, and Michael Salla, Director of Health and sport at Everton in the Community, joined Mick to talk about the ground-breaking project.

Caroline Paige and Joan Burnett on Liverpool Pride

Caroline was the first officer to transition gender in the British Armed Forces (1999). She had already served 19 years in the RAF, on fighter aircraft and battlefield helicopters, and following her transition, completed a further 16 years. She is now a patron of this year's festival and she told Alex her incredible story. Plus, Liverpool Pride patron, Joan Burnett, gave all the details of this weekend's celebrations if you want to get involved.

Melanoma survivor on banning sunbeds in the UK
11/07/2018 Duration: 13minJay Allen is a former truck driver from Australia who has battled melanoma and won, and is now on a mission to raise awareness and prevent others from getting the potentially deadly disease. Jay underwent immediate surgery and treatment. Ten years on he is fighting fit and was behind the campaign to ban sunbeds in Australia. He's teamed up with Melanoma UK and is travelling around the country to try and ban sunbeds across the UK. Gillian Nuttall, the CEO of Melanoma UK, was also alongside Jay Allen in the studio to talk about the importance of looking after your skin.

Dog free zones on the Wirral
21/06/2018 Duration: 17minThousands of people have signed a petition hitting out at plans to BAN dogs from some areas of the Wirral. The Council is proposing stricter rules on where dog walkers can go to make places cleaner and safer . It could lead to people being fined for taking their pets to places like sports pitches and parts of the beaches Wirral Council say there will still be “over 20 miles of unrestricted beach” for letting dogs off the lead all year round, and outside of the warmer season, dogs would be able to go anywhere on the bathing beaches. A consultation on the new so called Public Space Protection order is underway - until the middle of July. Mick spoke to Councillor Mathew Patrick from Wirral Council - who’s put forward the proposal and also heard from local dog owners who are angry at the plans.
