  • Legends Podcast #388; Creed (Rocky Arc)

    12/09/2018 Duration: 01h55s

This week we’re back to general movie legends after a month of heists and capers, and what better place to start then with a revival of one of the most legendary movie franchises - Rocky. A decade after Rocky Balboa purportedly ended the franchise, and forty years after the original title bout, director Ryan Coogler brings Rocky’s rival’s son into the ring in Creed. Frequent Coogler collaborator Michael B. Jordan plays Adonis Creed, while Sly Stallone himself steps back into the role that made him famous, and garnered his second Oscar nomination for playing the titular pugilist. Though the film artfully blends the hero worship of Rocky the fictional boxer with that of Rocky the real-life movie star, does Creed stand toe-to-toe with the original or does it pull its punches? Let’s get ready to rumble!   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! • Legends Podcast #387; Baby Driver (Aug-Heist)

    06/09/2018 Duration: 56min

Legends Podcast is cracking open the cinematic vault and bringing you a whole month of cons, capers, and car chases! Whether you’re a grifter, a hacker, a freelance spy, a bank robber, or a wheelman, you’ll find the big score right here on our podcast. This is Aug-Heist! This week we’re talking about Baby Driver from 2017. This film marked the first big-screen outing for director Edgar Wright after he wrapped up his Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy, and Baby Driver tells the story of the titular reluctant wheelman, Baby, who is actually a grown-up. The odd title didn’t confuse audiences, however, as the summer release turned out to be Wright’s biggest box-office success ever. Showcasing thrilling car chases choreographed to a peppy pop-rock soundtrack, Baby Driver scored with moviegoers, but will it score with the three flavors of podcast host as we judge the final installment of Aug-Heist 2018?   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! These discussions will be spoiler filled and may explicit language, so consider your

  • Legends Podcast #386; Inside Man (Aug-Heist)

    29/08/2018 Duration: 54min

Whether you’re a grifter, a hacker, a freelance spy, a bank robber, or a wheelman, you’ll find the big score right here on our podcast. This is Aug-Heist! This week we’re talking about Inside Man from 2006. This film marked the fourth collaboration between acclaimed director Spike Lee and actor Denzel Washington, and it proved to be a winning game plan as the movie boosted Lee’s biggest box office haul to date. A taut bank/robbery hostage thriller, Inside Man kept audiences guessing up until the final frame. But does the movie prove to be a smart investment, or does it write checks it can’t cash?   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! Whether you’re a grifter, a hacker, a freelance spy, a bank robber, or a wheelman, you’ll find the big score right here on our podcast. This is Aug-Heist! This week we’re talking about Ronin from 1998, which brings together a band of covert operatives in post-Cold War France on the hunt for a mysterious case. Directed by John Frankenheimer, this hard-boiled thriller earned praise for its realistic car chases and gritty action that influenced the Bond and Bourne franchises in the next decade. However, the film was also criticized for its overworked plot and reliance on trope. But whatever the case may be, the film never truly answers its most important question: WHAT’S THE COLOR OF THE BOATHOUSE AT HEREFORD?!   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! Released in the DOS era, Sneakers was a box office hit. But does it stand up to today’s system requirements, or should it be rebooted?   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! 02/08/2018 Duration: 38min

From the movie studio that brought you Frozen a year later, which probably made you forget this movie existed, comes a tale of a video game villain in search of a higher calling. Combining funky animation with character cameos from across the arcade spectrum, Wreck-It Ralph established the template for overstuffed nostalgia-laden films like The Lego Movie and Ready Player One, not to mention the forthcoming sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet. But is Wreck-It Ralph still worth a shiny quarter or should it be unplugged?   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! In the distant future, a man wakes up in a pod after a thousand years of suspended animation and encounters bug-eyed mutants and a world he doesn’t recognize. Bad news, everyone! We’re not talking about Futurama. We’re discussing the 2009 film Pandorum. Starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster, this sci-fi/horror flop found a cult following online, but does the film deserve to make it to the new world after we blow up this one? • Legends Podcast #378; Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary Special

    22/06/2018 Duration: 01h19min

Twenty-five years ago, an amazing entertainment spectacle showcased a radical new technology that brought extinct creatures to life and captured the imagination of the entire world. The fact that it happened to be a movie about an entertainment spectacle that showcased a radical new technology bringing extinct creatures to life was purely coincidental. Unlike the titular amusement park, the movie was a monumental success and hatched a franchise that, though at times seemed endangered, has yet to go extinct. • Legends Podcast #377; Kill Me Three Times (Thriller)

    15/06/2018 Duration: 58min

Legends Podcast makes a detour to the Western Coast of Australia for a wannabe Tarantino flick from director Kriv Stenders! Co-starring Westworld’s Luke Hemsworth (brother of Thor), Kill Me Three Times also brings us Simon Pegg as a sardonic hit man in a layered tale of betrayal and revenge. The movie has more twists than you could shake a didgeridoo at, but is Kill Me Three Times worth watching more than once? Stay till the end, lobster comes in hot!   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! • Legends Podcast #376; Solo (Star Wars)

    06/06/2018 Duration: 01h19min

A mere five months after Star Wars: The Last Jedi divided fans with its treatment of beloved characters, Lucasfilm goes back to the well of the franchise’s mythos for another anthology piece, this time focusing on a young Han Solo. Although Solo: A Star Wars Story’s opening was a box office disappointment, early reviews and fan reaction were positive. Now Legends Podcast is wading into the fracas, hoping to make sense of this bunch of mumbo-jumbo. Will we decide we’d rather watch the paint dry on Jabba the Hutt’s self-portrait, or will we Jedi Mind Trick you into seeing the movie? That’s not how the Force works!   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! • Legends Podcast #375; Firefly Duo (TV Show)

    31/05/2018 Duration: 01h29s

With Solo: A Star Wars Story hitting the big screen, Legends Podcast takes a look back at another swashbuckling band of spacefaring misfits: the crew of Serenity from Joss Whedon’s Firefly. We think Mal and company could sit comfortably beside Han, Chewie, and Lando, so we’ve picked out a pair of episodes from Firefly’s first and only season, “The Train Job” and “Our Mrs. Reynolds,” which we think make a nice duo to discuss before Solo. We aim to misbehave, but never tell us the odds!   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! • Legends Podcast #374; Deadpool 2 (Unicorns)

    24/05/2018 Duration: 55min

After eviscerating Valentine’s Day box office records, the Merc with a Mouth is at it again, this time setting his sights on Summer Movie Season. Deadpool 2, which adds Josh Brolin’s Cable and a fanny pack full of fresh faces, hopes to re-write history with a super-duper effing team movie. Will the one-time Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds be able to build a marketable franchise around an R-rating up against the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars? If not, we hear that X-Force is hiring...   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! • Legends Podcast #373; Get Out (Horror)

    16/05/2018 Duration: 01h01min

Legends Podcast takes a detour from blockbuster to Blumhouse with 2017’s surprisingly successful debut film from writer/director Jordan Peele. In making the transition from TV sketch comedy to horror, Peele put a terrifying spin on the classic “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” set-up. Get Out earned a massive $250 million on a four-and-a-half million dollar budget and garnered multiple awards and nominations, including an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Peele. But does this scary story add up to a modern classic, or should Peele “Get Out” of the movie business? (Seriously, though, he shouldn't.)   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! • Legends Podcast #372; Avengers: Infinity War (Marvel)

    10/05/2018 Duration: 01h11min

The Marvel Cinematic Universe spent 18 films building to an epic showdown with Thanos, the Mad Titan. Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of ten years’ worth of storytelling, featuring dozens of characters, various locations across the cosmos, and stakes high enough to bring together Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Master of the Mystic Arts, and your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. While the film has already broken box office records around the globe, it has left lingering questions about the future of MCU and the nature of filmmaking itself. Now, Legends Podcast sits down to talk about the movie while we watch the sun rise on a grateful - or ungrateful - universe. Just don’t call us plucky - we don’t know what it means.   Spoiler Alert! • Legends Podcast #371; Sunshine (Sci-Fi)

    04/05/2018 Duration: 54min

In 2007, one movie brought together Scarecrow, Captain America, Captain Phillipa Georgiou, Moira MacTaggart, Wong, the dad from Fear the Walking Dead, and Sinestro. That movie was written by the man who would create Ex Machina and directed by the man who will direct the 25th James Bond installment. That movie was Sunshine, and it was a box office flop. But just over a decade later, the legacy of the film seems brighter as many of its stars have found the spotlight and its director won a shiny Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire. So, should Sunshine go gently into that good night, or should it rage, rage against the dying of the light?   Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert!
