As always each weekend during the hockey season we checked in with Jess Myers who is at ‘The Rink Live’ at 3M at Mariucci Arena cover Gophers hockey - we talked to him about the celebration last night of Marc Andre Fleury and looked around Big Ten, NCHC, and CCHA scores and weekend matchups.  

After a busy week in Washington D.C. and elsewhere we talked to Dave Schultz of Hamline University about all of the happenings from the Biden documents, the Nevada Caucus and much more including Trump torpedoes the border deal and talk Ukraine-Israel as well. Then we talked to Jace Fredrick of the Pioneer Press about the Timberwolves who bounced back from a couple tough losses and beat Giannis and the Bucks in Milwaukee - also talked about Anthony Edwards and more! We also talked about Waste Management and PGA as well.  

After a bounce back victory for the Timberwolves in Milwaukee, what lies ahead for this team as they head to the west coast for a matchup with LA and Portland next week - we talked to Jace Fredrick of the Pioneer Press on that, Anthony Edwards, and more!  

It was a busy week in politics so we called on Dave Schultz from Hamline University to answer some questions regarding Donald Trump-Nikki Haley, the Biden documents, Nevada Caucus, Ukraine/Israel deal and more!

We began the final hour discussing the story of Taylor Swift traveling from Japan on the eve of Super Bowl 58 to Las Vegas - we weighed the logistics of that and talked about Detroit’s gameplan in their loss to San Francisco last weekend. Also talked to Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune about the Minnesota United and even some PGA and LIV discussion as well. Then Steve brings up the third annual Clash at the Coliseum with NASCAR taking place Saturday night. 

Caught up with Jerry Zgoda who covers golf and the Minnesota United FC for the Star Tribune we got into both a little bit as the United are set to kick off their 2024 campaign at the end of February, they acquired midfielder Alejandro Bran,  what the update on Robin Lod is, and some PGA discussion and LIV.   

It's still warm outside so we head out there with Steve Carney, get his thoughts on the thinning ice and much more with ice fishing looking pretty sparse this time of the year. Then we go out to the rink LIVE with Jess Myers of The Rink Live, he's in Madison for the Badgers-Huskies women’s game and talks Big Ten, NCHC and more hockey talk! Then chatted with Kevin Lynch of Bally Sports North about the Wolves tough loss to Orlando, Anthony Edwards growth as a player and even talked pickleball. Also previewed Super Bowl 58.

It was a rough end to the night at Target Center for the Timberwolves after leading at the half by double digits, they fall to Orlando in the final minutes. We chatted with Kevin Lynch of Bally Sports North about the loss, what adjustments need to be made and we get into the complaining taking place and Anthony Edwards growth as a player.

In this first hour with Steve Thomson we chatted with Stephen Clark of Arstechnica about a variety of spaceflight topics from Mars exploration to the latest on SpaceX and the future of Starship launches. Also Phil Miller of the Star Tribune joined to talk about the new deal struck with Bally Sports North keeping the Twins on their station for at least one more season and talked about the acquisition of Carlos Santana as well.   

It finally happened, the Minnesota Twins have a home…for now on television - they reached a one year deal with Bally Sports North where fans can watch the games and we talked to Phil Miller, covers the Minnesota Twins for the Star Tribune, about that and the acquisition of Carlos Santana who happens to hit very well at Target Field. 

NASA had a first with Inginuity which set off for Mars exploration back in 2021 reached its end in 2024 but it was the first robot operated helicopter to explore the planet. Stephen Clark of Arstechnica explained how it can no longer take flight and what this means for future exploration of Mars.  We also dove into Space X and when we can expect the next Starship launch.   

From talking Cooperstown’s newest inductees with USA Today and Audacy’s MLB writer Bob Nightengale to previewing the weekend of NFL playoff action for Championship Sunday and catching up with Jess Myers from Warroad for Hockey Day Minnesota - we had plenty of sports to talk about this hour on a Sports Saturday. 

We head up north to talk to Warroad’s finest Jess Myers from The Rink Live , he recaps what has been a tremendous event hosted up in Warroad, we also talk Gophers hockey and some other college hockey action taking place tonight 

We continued the baseball talk with USA Today and Audacy Sports’ own Bob Nightengale getting his take on Joe Mauer getting the call as well as Todd Helton, Adrian Beltre will join him in Cooperstown.

News broke this week that the University of Minnesota is weighing its options on whether to renovate or rebuild the legendary almost 100 year old Williams Arena, known to many as “The Barn” - we reflect on the legacy of the building and whether its time to say goodbye to this Minnesota gem. Also Dan Hayes, who covers the Minnesota Twins for The Athletic joins us to break down the offseason to-do list for the Minnesota Twins and talks Joe Mauer potentially getting the call to “the Hall” on Tuesday. Finally, the Timberwolves are in action against the second-best team in the west - battle of #1 vs. #2 at Target Center tonight!   

Seemingly a lot of holes to fill, especially with pitching - we talk to-do’s for the Minnesota Twins, Joe Mauer and much more with Dan Hayes of The Athletic as the baseball season is slowly warming up! 

We head outdoors with Steve Carney to kick off this hour on a Sports Saturday giving us a live update from the icy cold temperatures as he is out on the ice, also previewing the bite on a warmer weekend ahead and more. Then we talked to Jess Myers of The Rink Live covering a variety of topics from Gophers women’s action to previewing Gopher men’s team in action tonight as well as CCHA and NCHC discussion as well. Then warmed things up with some baseball talk as it is right around the corner - talked to Dave St. Peter, Twins President of Baseball Operations about the upcoming Minnesota Twins festivities from the Winter Caravan, the Diamond Awards, TwinsFest next weekend and the inevitable Spring Training next month. We also preview the NFL Divisional matchups! 

It may be January but we were able to preview what should be a good week of Minnesota Twins events with the President of Baseball Operations for the Minnesota Twins, Dave St. Peter - from the Diamond Awards on Wednesday, kick starting the Twins Winter Caravan, and Twins Fest next weekend - even dove into a big week potentially for Joe Mauer!
