Welcome to our newest WIIM Radio! This time around we had me, Peter, and Prashanth around to talk all things Wings. Here’s what we got into: Closing Out the Joe - Memories and feelings from the last game at the Joe from the ride watching at home to the in-arena atmosphere; we talked about a real fun game to experience to finish out a disappointing season. What Comes Next for the Wings - While fans chanted “come home Stevie”, we get a chance to discuss how the Wings get back to having real pride for the team they are. It starts at the GM position, of course and the need to make the right moves. Prashanth talks about his plan. Drafting and General Managing - We discussed the Wings draft strategy being for maximum value and the faith in the general manager to carry this stuff out. Mostly, we get a lot of stuff out about how Ken Holland is going to get one more year, but that year is going to be telling one way or another. Frans Nielsen and the Wings Being Tougher to Play Against - Nielsen’s comments were rig

With only one game to break down this week, we’ll spend waaay too much time talking about that. The Trade Deadline - The Wings held Ott out instead of Vanek and it turned out to be the right idea. We’ll give our overall thoughts on the deadline and how the Wings sold folks off. The New Rebuild - Ken Holland hasn’t solved all the problems, but in terms of the direction of the team, the trade deadline moves were a good step. We talk about what they can do with all the draft picks and what more can be done going into next season. Around the League - Winners and losers of the trade deadline. Haha Colorado and WTF Ottawa?       Welcome to the newest edition of WIIM Radio! This time around we’ve got Jeff hosting with me, Lauren, and Peter joining along to shoot the breeze (and miss short side). Here’s what we got up to: The Red Wings heading into their vacay - Detroit played like they have all season in creating some hope besting the class of the conference over the weekend before shitting the bed against the Isles and finally convincing the diggers to actually tell people the Wings should sell. Nobody is surprised anymore by this. The Trade Deadline looming - You knew we were going to be talking about this, so here we go with all the jabber. Smith, Vanek, Green, Tatar, Nyquist, all the fun stuff! Around the League - We mostly spend this segment talking about which other teams we can not vomit at seeing win the cup. Positivity Corner - I’m POSITIVE you’ll love this Reader Questions - Y’all came with some really good questions this week. I liked the Steve Ott fighting a tree one and the one about Smith/Subban. Great work!

Well hey there, everyone! It’s time for a brand-spanking-new episode of Winging it in Motown Radio. There’s plenty to talk about with the trade deadline on the horizon, the performance (or lack thereof) of the team, injuries, and other topics from around the league. Here’s the rundown: The Wings as of late - Well, not very good. They have yet to “go on a run” like everyone has been saying they need to do. Is it going to happen? What needs to change to make it possible? The trade deadline approaches - The trade deadline is March 1st. The Wings are fighting in the basement with the Tampa Bay Lightning and it appears that they are set to be in a position to sell. Trade trackers at TSN have Thomas Vanek listed as a commodity, but the team and Vanek himself have expressed interest in keeping him in Detroit. Plus, we’ll talk about other trade bait the Wings have available. This will be a hefty topic, so keep that mindful when submitting a reader question! Around the league - Another coach bites the dust; Claude

Here’s the quick and dirty rundown: The Wings of Late - We’ve covered this in-depth a bunch of times, but the Ducks game was legitimately fun, so we got to talk about that. Aside from that, we cover all the parts of the fun and bad stuff. What’s going to happen as the team gets healthy? Are drastic changes going to happen? Stay tuned! Is the NHL not fun this year? - It might be harder to love the NHL when the team is struggling, but we discuss whether it goes deeper than that.Hate-watching/reading and our hateful digger - One of the Detroit beat writers has an axe to grind with a guy who deserves criticism to be sure, but not nearly to the level that’s coming out of the Freep lately.Positivity Corner - All the stuff we’re happy and thankful for, including a very special bit on Craig Cunningham.Reader Questions - I rocked this again. Here’s the rundown: The Wings are winning recently, but with plenty of room to improve on the process by which their earning those points. • Listen to WIIM Radio: The Spicy Meatball Edition

    01/12/2016 Duration: 01h05min

Welcome to our newest WIIM Radio! This time around we had Kyle, Jeff, Prashanth, and Mike around for your Wings chatter needs. Here’s the general rundown: The Red Wings - Since we last talked, the Red Wings are 3-0-1. Yep, that’s right, they’ve won more games than lost! There is plenty to talk about from that stretch, so we’ll riff on that, plus some names that have really impressed us and stressed us. I’m sure we’ll also toss in some roster speculation like we always do. The Injury Bug - Seems like clockwork for this team, but the injury bug has officially paid the Red Wings it’s annual visit. There are a slew of injuries afoot, so we’ll talk about who is hurt, and who needs to or has been stepping up in the absence of so many players. Observations from around the league - Outside of some cool storylines like the rookie class of this season, I think it’s been sort of a boring start. Am I the only one feeling this way? Also, we’ll talk about who’s hot, who’s not, the fakers, and the makers around the NHL.

We have me, Graham, Kyle, and Mike on to talk all things Wings. Here’s the rundown: The Red Wings - The team is struggling in fall facets of the game and will go into Wednesday’s battle against Buffalo trying to climb out of the Atlantic basement. How close to their record are the Wings playing? The Coaching - With the way the Wings have been going/making various mistakes, some of it has to fall on the coaching. How hot should Jeff Blashill’s seat be right now? All-Star Voting & The John Scott Rule - The league submitted rules to try to keep the John Scott thing at bay, but left a few holes in the concept. No matter what, the voting will probably be dumb. Still. #VoteOtt Leaguewide Observations - The Vegas Golden Knights are here! Who cares? Everybody! Also, it’s not exactly OUR league, but we’ll be sharing a house with the Pistons, as an

    08/11/2016 Duration: 01h18min

It's that time of the week again where we get to stay up late, all hopped up on rage and adrenaline, to discuss what's been happening with our Detroit Red Wings and the NHL at-large. Wanna know tonight's topics? Well I guess this is your lucky day.... they're just below! The Week In Review Fans were slapped in the face with a string of losses since the last recording. We have feelings on that. You probably do, too. Let's get emotional together. Prospect News Lil Bert slapped management in the face hard enough to get a call-up while Vanek lingers in LTIR. Is this Ken Holland’s way of slapping Mantha in the face? *removes tin-foil hat Rumblings Around The League Ken Holland was slapped in the face with the lack of value of his trade pieces, as he was supposedly shot down on a 3-way deal for Trouba. Also, Toronto and Vancouver slapped at each other over the weekend and it was entertaining. This and other stuff from around the NHL. Positivity Corner It’s not all handprints and hurt feelings as we point ou

  • Listen to WIIM Radio: Philly Nightmare Edition

    03/11/2016 Duration: 01h24min

Welcome to a new episode of WIIM Radio. We foolishly decided to record after a game, so bear with us. Just me, Kyle, and Peter tonight. Here’s what we got up to: The Red Wings lost to the Flyers again - Detroit blew a winnable game because of bad decision-making and we vented about it... at length. Moving forward - BAG SKATE EVERYBODY! How to fix the defense - Is it too terribly broken without making a trade? Can anything be done to get folks’ heads above water? Other roster moves - There’s probably a cap reason for not having Kronwall on LTIR and giving the Wings the ability to carry an extra forward. Is Thomas Vanek the key to the whole damn thing? Around the league - It’s the year of the rookies around the NHL. All those damn kids playing... all... those... kids... Positivity Corner - Shut up. Reader Questions - You asked, we answered. Good job.   You can listen via the embedded player above or download from our Blogtalk Radio page. We’re also supposed to be on iTunes and Google Podcasts, provided

    25/10/2016 Duration: 01h31min

Welcome to the newest edition of WIIM Radio! We have a packed house for this one, as I’m joined by Kyle, Graham, and Prashanth for a rip-roaring good time after the Wings put up four straight wins. Here’s what we went over: The Start to the Season - Positives and negatives from the beginning of the season as the Wings have a 4-2 record to start. What’s been working out so far and what hasn’t been? The Ericsson Renaissance - The whole team’s defensive structure has changed and it seems that Ericsson is a beneficiary of it. He’s a whole new person while the Wings slow things down in one end to speed them up in another. The Cam Fowler Rumors - It seems almost inevitable that it will happen, but there’s lots of reasons to believe it might not. Will the defensive resurgence prevent it from happening? Is Fowler worth the price it will probably cost? Jimmy Howard and Speaking of Trades - Will the Wings end up moving Howard? Can they? Do they even want to? Is it Smart? Did I leave the iron on? All this and more.

They Still Lost the First Two - The differences between the first two games and the win against Ottawa, the defense, the lines, the boards, and the plan going forward. The Thought Process & Expectations - Are the Wings still looking like the bubble team or should we be looking at lottery pick? What the hell is Ken Holland doing? Welcome to the latest episode of WIIM radio! Today we’ve got Kyle, Peter, Mike, and me all here to make you struggle telling us apart (I’m Seth Rogen). Here’s what we got into in this episode: The Waiver Losses & Roster Choices - The Wings lost Frk and Pulkkinen to waivers in order to ensure they have the newest version of their grind line to put out there. It’s not the end of the world or anything, but it’s not exactly great either. The Defense - With Kronwall on IR retroactive and able to come back whenever he feels like it, we’ve got a limited window for Sproul/Ouellet to shine. What should we expect from the groupings we’ve got? The New Arrivals - Nielsen is the new center in town and Thomas Vanek will be the PP specialist coming around. Instead we talk about bus tickets and hot air balloon rides. Just kidding. Nielsen rules. Around the NHL - We go around the divisions and pick our winners. The Atlantic is still a bag of trash, but we’re not the only one! Reader Questions - Y’all asked some wonderful

Here’s what we got up to: The Start of Free Agency - The Wings got off to an earlier start on July 1st and kind of set the tone for the whole day with the Helm signing, but hindsight on it isn’t terrible... just that it wasn’t ideal either. The Need to Sign DeKeyser & Mrazek - Will both of these guys go to arbitration? Do we want that. We talk about which one we’d rather honestly go to arbitration and which one we’d rather give five years to.The Red Wings Sticking to the Plan & Trading for Defensemen - Trading for a guy is going to cost a bunch, but are the kids really the answer here? Reader Questions - Y’all asked some real good questions and we gave you decent to outright great answers. • WIIM Radio: Pre-Agency Craziness

    30/06/2016 Duration: 01h20min

Hoo boy do we have some stuff to talk about for you in this episode of WIIM Radio. We've got me, Kyle, Jeff, Graham, and Prashanth to talk about all of the craziness in the NHL in the past week and also to answer your reader questions. Here's what we got up to this week:   The NHL Has Gone Nuts! - We lost out on the Stamkos Sweepstakes before it even started, as the Wings didn't even get a chance to talk to the guy before he re-signed in Tampa for a lockout-proof, buyout-proof $8.5M AAV eight-year deal. The Oilers traded Hall for a guy who's basically a decent top-four guy, but at least the Habs made themselves worse!Red Wings Free Agency Planning - Should they move for a young defenseman and a big forward? Get a center? Give term out? Maybe give out higher AAV for a shorter deal? Can we get Trouba or Shattenkirk still? How about homegrowing guys? The Draft - The Wings grabbed a bunch of defensemen, a goalie, and a power forward type. Most importantly though, he dumped the Datsyuk deal in a great deal. Graham
