  • 2-2-0 On Road Trip Not Good Enough With Playoff Chase

    20/02/2023 Duration: 36min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) invites Alex Slemp(@AlexSlemp) to discuss the Panthers' 2-2-0 road trip. The road trip result is just not good enough when chasing teams in the Wild Card Race. The Panthers fell flat in Nashville, despite getting the most important win in the road trip in Washington. However, the results on the rest of the Saturday games did not make the Panthers lose too much ground. The guys discuss the Strength of Schedule for the teams competing with the Panthers for the Wild Card race and how it favors the Panthers, which in the next week, things will be more clear as the Cats will have multiple off days as the teams will make up their games in hand. Third and final segment, Alex and Armando preview the Panthers-Ducks matinee game where it is seen as a no excuses game on Monday afternoon. After Monday, the Panthers will just sit back and watch the other NHL games take place on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast

  • Panthers Win Big In The Nations Capital 6-3, Now Tied For Final Wild Card Spot

    17/02/2023 Duration: 34min

It's a Fairbanks Friday Edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, as Nick Fairbanks(@prudentia0) joins Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) to discuss the Panthers going into Washington and coming out with 2 big points in a huge swing game for both teams. Panthers returned to the place where they clinched their first playoff series win in 26 years on Thursday Night, and got contributions in various ways, including Marc Staal's first goal as a Cat, and Colin White(who has been in and out of the lineup this year). Panthers used their speed not only create goals via the rush, but stopping the Capitals from getting Grade-A chances on Sergei Bobrovsky in the first 2 periods. Carter Verhaeghe continues to give Washington nightmares as he has 16 points in the last 8 games(dating back to last postseason) against the Capitals. Panthers did create little bit of scare as they allowed two PP goals to Washington in the final 7 minutes for Washington to make it as close as 4-3 before the Panthers net 2 ENG"s to put the game

  • Valentine's Day Blues, Panthers Lose 6-2 to STL

    15/02/2023 Duration: 34min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is flying solo as he is here to discuss the Panthers' 6-2 loss against the St. Louis Blues. Panthers looked like that team who had been on the second end of a back-to-back and with a goalie starting his first game in over 2 weeks(over a month at the NHL Level) while the Blues had played just their 2nd game coming out of the All-Star Break. After an unlucky bounce that led to the first goal by Brayden Schenn, the Panthers didn't do Spencer Knight any favors with offensive zone turnovers, leading to rush chances(which Spencer was beaten plenty of times glove side). We discuss the goalie situation for the Panthers and how this can be a lesson for Spencer Knight. Panthers did get a bit of help, but failed to take care of business as they prepare for the game of the season(to this point) against the Washington Capitals Thursday Night. We also discuss the tragedy that struck the South Florida community and how the Panthers hono

  • Sergei Bobrovsky With Likely His Best Game as A Panther Sets The Tone For The Road Trip

    14/02/2023 Duration: 37min

It's a Crossover Edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers as Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) invites Seth Toupal(@SethToups) to discuss the 2-1 SO win for the Panthers, where only 35:01 was played at 5-on-5. Ths game featured two of the three leaders in PIM in the NHL, and it showed on Monday night with the two teams having a combined 12 Power play opportunities, which nobody scored. Minnesota Goalie Filip Gustavsson wasn't giving up any rebound opportunities to the Panthers and the Cats went 10 minutes without allowing a SOG to Minnesota. The Panthers looked to have run out of gas as they registered 0 SOG, but thankfully the game went to a shootout and Anton Lundell and Aleksander Barkov answered the bell and Sergei Bobrovsky slammed the door on Kirill Kaprizov and the Wild to come away with a huge two points. We discuss what is next for the Panthers and Wild and look ahead to Tuesday's matchup against St. Louis on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.Follow & Subsc

  • Losses Are More Magnified, But Big Opportunity Ahead on 4-Game Road Trip

    13/02/2023 Duration: 33min

On this Monday edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is back to discuss the huge amount of help that the Panthers got in the Wild Card race, but an inability for the Panthers to capitalize and inch closer to a WC Spot. Every loss is more magnified as the Cats still need to play about .700 Hockey and coming out of the All-Star Break getting two-thirds of the points. Panthers on Saturday played to the pace of the Avalanche on Saturday and matched them even strength, but special teams were the difference again like they have been all season giving up a short handed goal early and a power play goal to the reigning Stanley Cup Champions. We discuss the Josh Mahura extension and F Grigori Denisenko call-up, what does this mean for F Anthony Duclair's timeline to return to the team(as the Panthers would need to make a corresponding move now to bring Duclair back)? We discuss this and more on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.Follow

  • 3-GAME WINNING STREAK!

    10/02/2023 Duration: 34min

It's a Fairbanks Friday Edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, as Nick Fairbanks(@prudentia0) joins Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) to discuss the Panthers stressful 4-1 win over the San Jose Sharks, behind a 33 save performance by Sergei Bobrovsky. Bob kept the Panthers in the game after the Sharks scored the first goal of the game. The ice tilted the rest of the way in Florida's favor as though the Panthers were without Captain Aleksander Barkov, Eetu Luostarinen steps into the top line and Sam Reinhart gets on the scoresheet twice, now with 5 goals in his last 7 games. The Lomberg-Staal-Cousins line was a force even prior to Eric Staal scoring 2 Short handed ENG's towards the end of the game. Panthers had a bit of adversity when up 2-1 when Ekblad took a 4-minute double minor with 4:52 left, but the Panthers find a way and get their first 3-game winning streak of the season and now sit 1 point back of the final Wild Card Spot. We discuss this, a possibly of an outdoor game in Florida, and preview Sa

    07/02/2023 Duration: 32min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to recap the Panthers' dominant win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Panthers dominance started with the top line consistently creating turnovers in the Bolts zone to consistently put pressure on Andrei Vasilevskiy. The story however was the 2nd line of Verhaeghe-Bennett-Tkachuk, where they combined for a +14 and 15 shots on goal of the Panthers' 49. Sergei Bobrovsky in his first game since 1/19 stood strong for the Panthers, including stopping breakaways from Ross Colton and Steven Stamkos, but the Panthers gave Bobrovsky a lot of room to react and the Cats prevented the super stars of Tampa from living in the slot like we've seen in the past. We discusswhat this win means as the Cats have 2 days off before their next game against the San Jose Sharks on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

  • Panthers Might Have Saved Their Season in 4-3 OT Win Over The Bruins

    30/01/2023 Duration: 33min

On This Sunday Edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Alex Slemp(@AlexSlemp) from Full Press Hockey(@FullPressNHL) to discuss the Panthers' 4-3 OT win over Boston. Panthers got their first win when trailing after both the first and the second periods. Florida also gave Boston their first 3-game losing streak of the season, and only the second team in the NHL to beat Boston twice this season. Panthers had some self-inflicted inflicted wounds that caused the Bruins to take the lead in both the first and the second period by Brandon Montour and Sam Bennett, but both of them made up for it by scoring game-tying goals. Boston took the lead with 48 seconds left, but the Captain Aleksander Barkov scores with 3 seconds left, and Sam Reinhart scores 17 seconds into OT to have the Panthers go from 0 points to 2. Did the Panthers save their season after Saturday NIght's win? How are the vibes going into the All-Star Break? Speaking of All-Star, the guys discuss the festiv

  • Tale Of Two Halves As First 30 Minutes Proved Costly in 4-3 Loss vs. LA

    28/01/2023 Duration: 32min

It's a Special Saturday edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, as Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to discuss the Panthers' 4-3 loss against the Los Angeles Kings at home. The Kings dominating the game for the first 30 minutes with sustained offensive zone time and creating chances off the rush early and often. Panthers came in hot on the Power play, but not only did the Cats not score on any of their 5 PP opportunities, but they allowed LA to get two short handed goals(including one where the Panthers had a man advantage due to a 5-minute Major). The Panthers came alive in the second half of the second period and got 2 goals in less than 3 minutes to cut the deficit to one, but even a 19-11 SOG advantage for Florida wasn't enough to comeback and even get a point out of this one. Now at their 4th 3-game losing streak of the season(without having 1 3-game winning streak), their season is on the line tonight as they welcome the likely Presidents' Trophy Winner, the Boston Bruins(who have not dropp

  • Panthers Lose In a Slugfest In Pittsburgh, 7-6 in OT, Can't Hold On To Leads

    25/01/2023 Duration: 41min

It' a Winans Wednesday Edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, as Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) joins Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) to discuss the Panthers' 7-6 OT loss to Pittsburgh in a game where the Panthers came in short handed without Sam Bennett and a surprise start by Alex Lyon in net. Pittsburgh also made a last minute change in goal with Casey DeSmith starting with Tristan Jarry a scratch(so no backup goaltender on the night for PIT). Panthers got out to a 2-0 lead, but it immediately evaporated with 3 unanswered goals. The Cats regained the lead 2 more times on the night, but the continuous mistakes in their own zone and going to the penalty box(2/5 on the PK) did help them put this away. The Panthers had timely scoring towards the end of the first and third by Carter Verhaeghe to tie the game both times(now a career high in goals) and even had a short handed goal by Aaron Ekblad(1 goal and 2 assists on the night). Panthers had an untimely penalty in overtime as Brandon Montour was sent to th

It's a Crossover edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, as Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Jon Chik(@Jchik17) of Locked On NY Rangers to discuss the 6-2 New York win over Florida. Panthers dominated the 5-on-5 possession numbers, but did not put enough sustained pressure on the reigning Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin. Rangers took advantage of their opportunities to crash the net as 4 of their 6 goals came from the dirty areas, making Alex Lyon work in this one. Panthers 2 goals came when up a man(one on the PP, one on the 6-on-5 in the 3rd). The Panthers did have a bit of a scare as Sam Bennett got tangled up with Rangers F Filip Chytil and had to go to the locker room. Tried giving it a go in the 2nd period and then ended up not coming out for the 3rd. We provide an update on Bennett's status on when we expect him to return, all on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

Panthers were down to 4 Defensemen multiple times as Aaron Ekblad left the game 2 minutes into the game(not expected to miss much time) and Gus Forsling went to the locker room for a bit(ended up coming back and scored after Montour was assessed a 10-minute misconduct). Panthers also lost Sam Bennett in the second period as well, but the Cats never allowed the Wild to even get this game tied after their 2-goal lead in the 2nd. It's a Fairbanks Friday edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, as Nick Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) joins Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) to discuss the Panthers win over the Canadiens 6-2 at the Bell Center, where the Panthers scored 5 goals in the second period(4 on the Power play), after consistently dominating the zone time in period 1 and missing the net(and shots getting blocked) in the first period. The Panthers take advantage of the Canadiens' 3 Bench Minors in the 2nd period as well, and the Cats were living in the dirty areas all night. The Panthers faced some adversity early as they lost Sergei Bobrovsky to injury and in came Calder Cup Champion Alex Lyon who went 23/25 on the night. Panthers also lost Eric Staal in the first period after an interference from Former Panther D Mike Matheson(which there was not penalty called) as well. The game got really chippy in the 3rd period as both penalty boxes were full, with a combined 90 PIM on the night, with multiple fights and misconducts. The guys also
