  • 032: The Importance of Accounting + Book Keeping with Levi Morehouse

    24/10/2016 Duration: 01h02min

Levi Morehouse is not a yoga teacher, a yoga studio owner, or a yoga entrepreneur. He is a small business owner though, and his small business is an accounting + book keeping company called Ceterus. Ceterus' slogan is "let us do the rest" +  they provide services for small business owners doing their accounting or book keeping. You may be curious why I wanted to talk to Levi. The reason is that I think that book keeping + accounting is something that many people in the yoga industry lack, and that's fair enough. We, as yoga teachers, are great at educating and sharing our knowledge of yoga. We are not accountants, we are not book keepers, and we are not (usually) super knowledgeable in the area of accounting + book keeping. And we shouldn't be. We should be focusing on the things that we are great at, and let someone else do the things that we aren't. This is exactly what Levi and I chat about on this episode of the podcast. Levi shares his passion for accounting + book keeping, his recommendations for yoga s

  • 027: Knowing What You're Teaching For & Why it's Important

    25/07/2016 Duration: 26min

On today's solo episode, I dig into the topic of why it's important to know what you're teaching for. A while back, I wrote a blog post called "Why You Should Never Teach for a 'Maybe'". I wrote this post at a time when I was in an unconventional teaching agreement with a studio owner, and I was no longer receiving a monetary amount for my teaching. My business coach was uncomfortable, and I was thinking nothing of it. As time went on, I kept coming back to that situation. I trusted the person I was working with, and although everything worked out perfectly, it might not have. Since then, I have taught a karma class that I thought I was getting paid for that I actually wasn't, and I have heard numerous stories from people where there have been misunderstandings about payment. That's where this episode comes in. In this episode, I delve into why it's important to understand what you're teaching for before you teach, and why yoga should always be a business transaction. Money can be an uncomfortable topic to di
