  • Arjan Meijer - How To Fit HIT Around A Very Physical Job (#166)

    Arjan Meijer is from the Netherlands and has been training with weights since the 80s. He's done it all, read it all, and heard it all. He's tried high volume traditional weight training, Dorian Yates style high intensity training, Mike Mentzer consolidation routines, and much more. Arjan competed in two natural body building competitions at age 22 and 23, coming second place in the first and sixth place in the second. Despite being a fairly strong responder to resistance training, Arjan found Dorian Yates's approach to be too much still. This was primarily because he was, and still is, working in a very physical job in a meat factory. Not able to cope with the demands of both, in 2005, Arjan abandoned high intensity training for 3 years, losing most of his hard earned muscle mass.     Ivor Cummins BE(Chem) CEng MIEI is a chemical engineer and has since spent over 25 years in corporate technical leadership and management positions. He was shortlisted in 2015 as one of the top 6 of 500 applicants for “Irish Chartered Engineer of the Year”. Ivor has had a prolific career leading teams in complex problem-solving scenarios.   • Simon Melov, PhD - How Exercise Reverses Aging (#155)

    Simon Melov, PhD, heads the Buck Institute’s Genomic Core, which explores the role of the energy-making units inside cells, the mitochondria. Simon's research focus is in identifying molecular hallmarks of aging to guide the development of anti-aging therapies. Melov received his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of London in the UK. He held positions at Emory University in Atlanta and at the University of Colorado in Boulder before joining the faculty of the Buck Institute as an associate professor in 1999. Other research interests include the age-related bone disorder osteoporosis, age-related heart disease, the role of methylation in the aging human genome, and developing molecular techniques to better understand single cell changes with age.
