    09/04/2019 Duration: 28min

“The Saint John’s Bible is the first completely handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine Abbey since the invention of the printing press. Beginning in 1970, master calligrapher Donald Jackson expressed in media interviews his lifelong dream of creating an illuminated Bible. Following a Saint John’s University-sponsored calligraphy presentation at the Newberry Library in Chicago in 1995, Jackson discussed a handwritten Bible with Fr. Eric Hollas, OSB, former executive director of the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library at Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. Between 1996 and 1997, Saint John’s explored the feasibility of the Bible project, Jackson created first samples, and theologians developed the illumination schema. The Saint John’s Bible was officially commissioned in 1998 and funding opportunities were launched. The public was introduced to the project in 1999 and production was completed in 2011, with the final word penned in May 2011 and touch-up work completed by Dec

  • JohnMarc Skoch - FOCUS - SEEK2019 - Catholic Arts Revolution

    23/02/2019 Duration: 20min

WHERE I SERVE As a Regional Director for FOCUS I oversee 6 campuses, 3 in Kansas and 3 in Texas. My role is to work with the Team Directors at each campus to make sure they are living out the Universal Call to Holiness, and leading their team and students to do the same. I make sure that each team is living an authentic witness of discipleship with Jesus, so that they can call the students on their campuses to answer that same call. I do this by keeping in touch each week with the Team Directors, and periodically visiting campus throughout the year to ensure that they have everything they need to live out the mission. MY STORY Before I even thought about becoming a missionary, I desired to help people and play music. These have been the desires of my heart for a long time. I thought the only way I could do this, was through practicing medicine, and entertaining a crowd, at a local bar, with my guitar. As graduation neared, I was going to take a year off of school and figure out what the next step was. A

Beautiful music, books, and art have always been some of the greatest expressions of culture throughout human history. When rooted in truth, they cultivate virtue and transform you to love what is good. Think of the first time you saw your favorite band live or read a book that changed your life. Good media builds good culture, and sadly your options today are often limited: 1) consume shallow entertainment that leaves you feeling empty or 2) settle for cliché alternatives that leave you wanting more.
