Proverbs 29.18 delivers an uncompromising truth: “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Throughout Scripture, prophets, priests, and apostles were defined by one common thread: they were propelled by divine vision. Vision is not wishful thinking, nor is it a personal ambition dressed up in religious vocabulary. It is the steady, quiet conviction of hearing the voice behind you say: “This is the way, walk in it” (Isaiah 30.21). When you possess God-given vision, it provides the endurance needed to press on when circumstances look impossible. Based on the Book of James, chapter 3, we are cautioned to be careful about the words we use. Jesus said, "Out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks." We should be consistent in what we say. And in verse 11, he sums it up very, very carefully: "Can fresh water and dirty water – salt water – come from the same spring?" It can't. And he also says, "Can a fig tree bear half figs and half olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring bring fresh water." Now, why is he saying that? Because the trouble is that what comes out of your mouth is what's in your heart. Yeah, what comes out of your mouth is what's in your heart. And if you're speaking evil things, it's an indication of something wrong in your heart and wrong in your spirit. Then in verse 13, he continues very strongly by saying, "Who is wise and understanding? If you think that you're wise and you've got understanding, show it by the life you live, by deeds." It's got to be more than words in your life. It's so easy to speak and say

Then, of course, in verse 9, he goes on: "With the tongue we praise the Lord, and with it we curse man, who has been made in God's image. Out of the same person's mouth can come both blessing and cursing." Now, it's true. Somebody can come up to you and, if they want to flatter you, they can speak really nice things: "Oh, you're wonderful," and so on, and "I like you," and so on. And yet, they can turn behind your back and to somebody else say the exact opposite. What people say to your face is not what they say behind your back. I mean, they can be so pleasant to your face. I mean, I've had people who come up to me and make promises of what they're going to do this and – and when they go away, they do the exact opposite. They lie. The whole thing is that what James is saying is: this all comes down to the tongue. So

When you call upon the Name of the Lord you will be saved, healed and restored. If you need Jesus to work a miracle, I want to pray with you: 'Father we come in the mighty Name of Jesus, we ask You for a miracle. Reach out Your hand, touch these people, heal their sicknesses, forgive their sins, mend broken hearts, restore their lives. Based on the Book of James, chapter 3, we are cautioned to be careful about the words we use – make sure they uplift and not lead to destruction. What we say is important. I mean, the Bible says that everything we say is recorded, and we shall be judged on it. And while you might think that that's an impossibility, but what we're finding now: that so often the record of what you have said on a phone, it's difficult to get rid of it. You find that it's on the internet, and it is not easy to remove what has been said. And sadly, I know of cases where even young people have applied for a job, and the person who's going to employ them has examined what that young person has said. And it's recorded on the internet, and if they were negative, they have lost the job. I want you to realise the importance of the tongue. In verse 7, all kinds of animals, birds, and so on are being tamed and have been tamed by man. What James is saying is this: nobody can tame the tongue. Nobody can control what you say. In verse 6, James says, "The tongue is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. The tongue can corrupt the whole person and set the whole course of his life on fire." And then, of course, he goes on to say – and this is the danger – even the tongue can be set on fire by hell. Now, these are strong words coming from someone who lived so close to Jesus and wasn't necessarily in the first part of the ministry. We are not quite certain exactly when James was to become such an active part. But why I think this is important, and this chapter and this whole book is important, because you're dealing with somebody who understood the person of who Jesus was and who the followers were. In one sense, growing up with Jesus – remember that Jesus didn't start His ministry till He was 30 – I just sense that James must have had a much stronger realisation of the characte

In Mark 10:35-45, James and John approach Jesus with a bold request: they want the premier seats on His right and left in glory. They bypass the mission and jump straight to the reward. Jesus halts their ambition immediately: “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptised with?” (Mark 10:38) James and John assumed glory was a matter of proximity and privilege. Based on the Book of James, chapter 3, we are cautioned to be careful about the words we use - making sure they uplift and do not lead to destruction. If we listen to the wrong voices, and if we are not responding to God, we will turn – without necessarily realising it –  in the wrong direction. The tongue is a small part of the body, but it controls so much of who and what we are. It is so easy to use the tongue in the wrong direction. James also goes on to use another illustration: great forest fires are so often started not by something big, but by something small. Here, James is illustrating two distinct truths. First, with the tongue, our direction can be turned, influencing those who follow us. Second, if we misuse the tongue, it can cause a fire – it can cause destruction and immense damage. In verse 6, he says, "The tongue is a fire."

In Mark 10.33, Jesus takes the Twelve aside – speaking specifically to them rather than the wider crowd – to reveal what lies ahead: His suffering and death. He tells them, “The Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn Him to death and will hand Him over to the Gentiles.” Immediately after Jesus reveals His impending death and resurrection, an extraordinary interaction occurs. In verse 35, the brothers James and John approach Jesus with a bold request: “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.” It is a striking demand – unlike almost anything else seen from the disciples in Scripture. It reflects a mindset people sometimes bring to prayer today: approaching God demanding our own terms. Jesus responds by asking, “What do you want Me to do for you?” Though He already knew their hearts, He allowed them to speak for themselves. In today’s episode, based on the Book of James, chapter 3, we must learn to control our tongue – to only use words that uplift rather than tear down. We all stumble in many ways. We all fail; not one of us is perfect. In verse 3, he then puts it in a slightly different way, saying the same thing. He says: "We put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us." And it's quite interesting, because that's the only way you can control a horse, really, is by pulling on that bit – that steel thing in its mouth. In doing so, we make the horse obey us and turn. And then he uses another illustration – it's quite interesting that he uses this illustration in verse 4 – of ships. Because, of course, in those days they were large, heavy, wooden sailing ships, not like our modern ships. And he said that although the ship can be so big and driven by a wind so strong, the whole ship is turned by that tiny rudder. We have to be so careful the direction that we choose. In verse 23, Jesus looked at his disciples and made a comment: “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into the kingdom of God!” The disciples were so astonished, so surprised, that Jesus repeats the statement. They then ask, “How can anybody get saved?” Jesus gives a straight answer: “For men it's impossible, but not with God. For with God, all things are possible.” Salvation is free, but Jesus is teaching that the way into the kingdom is not broad and easy; there's a price to pay. The Impossibility of Self-Salvation (Mark 10:23–27) In Mark 10, Jesus challenges worldly assumptions about security and status by declaring how difficult it is for the wealthy to enter the Kingdom of God. When the disciples express shock, He clarifies that the issue lies in trusting in riches rather than God. Based on the Book of James, chapters 1 and 2, David highlights how God doesn’t look at our outward appearance, but our heart. God wants us to love one another, thereby fulfilling the royal law of Scripture. God doesn't judge us by our appearance, and this is why James goes on to say – if you look at verse 5: "Hearken, my beloved brethren, hath not God chosen the poor of this world who are rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those that love Him?" What James is pointing out is that, in God's sight, He is not looking merely at our outward appearance; He is looking at our heart. God judges us by what we do. He says that those of us who are rich in faith are heirs of a kingdom that has been promised. This is a promise – not a fantasy dream of a rich uncle in America, but a factual, evidential promise of the reward we have in the kingdom if we fulfil the royal law according to the Scripture. Many believers assume that accepting Christ and receiving water baptism represent the entirety of the Christian spiritual experience. Scripture in Acts 8 reveals otherwise. When the believers in Samaria received the Word of God and were baptised, the apostles Peter and John still had to be sent so these new converts might receive the Holy Spirit. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not merely an optional addition; it is an essential, distinct endowment of power for every believer. Salvation and the baptism of the Holy Spirit are distinct milestones. Jesus instructed His disciples after His resurrection to wait in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high. Just as the fire on the temple altar in Leviticus 6 was commanded never to go out, the fire received through the Holy Spirit is meant to remain ablaze, evident through supernatural power, bold witness, and transformed lives. In today's episode, based on the book of James chapter 1 and 2, David says that every good gift comes down from God, the Lord of glory, who shows no partiality. Every good gift comes from God, described in James as the Father of lights, in whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. James contrasts this with the sun. While the sun follows an orderly cycle of rising and setting, its light shifts and produces shadows; we cannot remain in its full brilliance twenty-four hours a day. God is not like that. He does not rise and set, nor does He wax and wane. His presence, character, and faithfulness remain constant 24/7. James then urges believers not to hold faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favouritism. This isn't merely instruction on how to treat others without prejudice; it is a profound declaration of who Christ is – the Lord of glory. When we reflect His nature, we live out that same consistency and impartial grace.
