Synopsis
In a letter-like narrative set in ancient Roman times, the narrator describes a vivid dream in which he is a Roman official in Spain. He leads a party into the mountains to investigate strange, ancient rites performed by a primitive tribe. The expedition ends in horror when they witness grotesque, age-old beings in a monstrous ceremony. The tale hints at dark, ancient powers lurking beneath history's surface.
