Matt 6:9,10 - Prayer is not about us, our needs, or our opinions; at its core prayer is designed to reorient us toward an intimate relationship with The Father in Heaven, and with the Community of Faith. When we pray the way Jesus instructed us to in reminds us first of who God is and His rightful rule over the world in general and our lives specifically. Maybe if you aren't experiencing an intimate relationship to the Father through prayer it could be that you are doing it wrong.
