Synopsis
9 hikers in the northern Ural Mountains, located in the former Soviet Union, died mysteriously between the 1st and 2nd of February, 1959. The experienced group were all from the Ural Polytechnic Institute, they had established a camp on the slope of Kholat Syakhl, in an area that is now named after the groups leader, Igor Dyatlov. In the night something caused them to tear their way out of their tents and flee the campsite, all while dressed in minimal clothing for the heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures. After the groups bodies were discovered, on investigation into their deaths took place, Soviet authorities determined that 6 had died from hypothermia while the other 3 showed signs of physical trauma. One victim had a fractured skull and the two others had major chest fractures. Additionally, a body of another team member was missing their tongue and eyes.
