For a 4th of July Bonus, I am offering up an excerpts from my 2014 faculty voice recital at Carthage College. From 2003- Dr. Hugh Evans, author of "The Hidden Campaign: FDR's Health and the 1944 Election." The book is an examination of the horrific health woes with which President Franklin D. Roosevelt was contending as he undertook his unprecedented campaign for a fourth term as president - health woes that were largely unknown not only to the general public but to most in his own administration as well.

From the spring of 1999, entertainment legend Steve Allen (1921-2000) .... the creator of The Tonight Show, a prolific author and composer. He visited both Wingspread and Carthage College in the spring of 1999. This interview is not only special because of Mr. Allen - but also because it was one of the only interviews I conducted with my friend and WGTD colleague Bill Guy, the creator of the Morning Show. Sadly, Bill died just a few months after this interview was recorded.

The occasion of this conversation was the publication of Professor Kummings' fourth book about Whitman, A COMPANION TO WALT WHITMAN.
