Her husband suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage and was gone at age 63. She hit the wall of loneliness and grieving at 90 mph. It was startling not only to her, but to the other story tellers that most people don’t have the faintest idea what to do for the bereaved. Strangers can be very kind, and familiar folks can be downright cruel. Grief is very poorly understood and not tolerated well in our culture. Not only has Mary Lee Robinson written books on the subject, as well as participating in the Grief Diaries anthology series, she started a movement, Set an Extra Plate, that encourages everyone to invite that person who may be alone on holidays to enjoy a meal with our families. Writers Tricks of the Trade - Guest Author Deborah Coonts - Episode 27
10/03/2016 Duration: 01h11minDEBORAH SAYS: My mother tells me I was born a very long time ago, but I’m not so sure—my mother can’t be trusted. These things I do know: I was raised in Texas on barbeque, Mexican food and beer. I am the author of WANNA GET LUCKY? (A NY Times Notable Crime Novel and double RITA™ Finalist), its five sequels, LUCKY BREAK, the latest and just out, and four between-the-books novellas. Currently I’m stretching my writer muscles working on a women’s fiction/contemporary romance series set in Napa—the first novel, CRUSHED, is out March 8th—a dark thriller, a romantic suspense series featuring a female helicopter pilot, as well as the next Lucky adventure—all very different projects. So, if you see me with a glass of Champagne in hand, you’ll understand. I can usually be found at the bar, but also at www.deborahcoonts.com.
