Educating Jeremy

Jeremy never watched Purple Rain.  No sugar coating it, he was a little dude when it came out, Deana Marie was almost 15 and although she couldn't see it in the theater, she saw it once Purple Rain hit VHS and she's been watching it ever since.  This film is an homage to the album of the same name, the Revolution and one of the greatest artists of all time.  Jeremy and Deana Marie discuss their mutual love of Prince, how Purple Rain showcases his music and the story of a kid trying to make it in the music industry in Minneapolis in 1984. 

This week Jeremy and Deana Marie take a trip back in time to the days of Technicolor as they watch and discuss John Ford's The Quiet Man, starring Maureen O'Hara, John Wayne, Barry Fitzgerald and Victor McLaglen.  This film was a favorite of someone very special in Deana Marie's life so this episode has a little nostalgia, a lot of laughter, the usual throat punches and some deep discussion about the changes in how relationships are portrayed on screen today vs. 60+ years ago.  There's also a very interesting discussion about Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure at the very end of the episode so be sure to stick around for that!

In this episode we invite you to say hello to our little friend!  Deana Marie and Jeremy enter the world of drug trafficking in the 80s with iconic character Tony Montana.  Shocking to think Jeremy hadn't seen Scarface, yet can quote the movie with great skill. Deana Marie gets nostalgic, sharing memories from the first time she saw Scarface, and her reactions as an adult aren't entirely different.  This movie was a special request by Justin, host of the Peripheral Podcast and co-host of Generation why Podcast.

Things get spooky this week on Educating Jeremy as Deana Marie and Jeremy discuss one of her favorite ghost story movies: The Conjuring.  Based on actual events, our hosts talk about the film, the hauntings behind the movie, how they feel about Ed and Lorraine Warren and some great podcasts who actually interviewed Andrea Perron, one of the daughters affected by the haunting.  

We've finally done it! We've found a movie Deana Marie loves which may not appeal quite as much to Jeremy - Snakes on a Plane.  This is classic Samuel L Jackson, although there aren't as many MFs as you might expect in a SLJ movie.  Not to worry, our hosts more than make up for that.  Deana Marie and Jeremy talk about snakes, snakes and more snakes, plus a bird that speaks with an Australian accent. Tune in to find out why this movie, which was an internet sensation before its release, is a favorite for Deana Marie's.  How Jeremy managed to suffer through this one is anyone's guess.

This week we celebrate Deana Marie's Italian heritage with the 1987 film Moonstruck, starring two of her favorite actors: Nicholas Cage and Cher.  Jeremy was dubious about the casting but finds there's more depth, humor and love under la bella luna than he imagined.  We laughed, she cried and as always, there's an occasional throat punch.  This is an extra special episode about a movie that was a favorite of a special man in Deana Marie's life, and becomes a special movie to Jeremy too. A la familia!

No, contrary to Jeremy's initial thoughts, this is not a movie featuring Yahoo Serious!  Young Sherlock Holmes is a film from 1985 starring Nicholas Rowe as the title character (one of Deana Marie's teenage crushes,) and tells the story of how Holmes and Watson met while investigating their first case at Brompton Academy in Victorian England.  Can Jeremy get past what he sees as a dated but fun movie?  And how many times will Deana Marie gush about Nicholas Rowe?   Follow the show on social media! From the first moment she saw it, Galaxy Quest has been one of Deana Marie's favorite films. Alan Rickman, check!  Tim Allen, Check! Sigourney Weaver, check! Justin Long, check! Homage to all the fans who love Star Trek and wish like anything Galaxy Quest was real, check!  Deana Marie watches this movie multiple times a year, yet Jeremy had never seen it. He probably had no intentions of every watching it since he figured it was a cheesy sci-fi spoof that even William Shatner wouldn't watch.  And he would be wrong. Follow the show on social media!
