The Kabbalah Of A Labor Day Vacation
04/09/2023 Duration: 02minSend us a textExplain this to me: we drive on parkways and park in driveways. And there's no labor done today because today is Labor Day. Today is the birthday of the Baal Shemtov, who taught us that everything we see or hear is a message. God is giving us instructions through what we see. And I think the celebration of vacation on Labor Day is very relevant to the upcoming day of Rosh Hashanah. We call our new year Rosh Hashanah because it is not only the beginning of the year, but also the head, the source of energy for the whole year, guiding us. This year, because Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat, there's a synergistic energy in the entire coming year. The whole year is infused with Shabbat energy. The primary difference between Shabbat and the days of the week is that during the week we work, and on Shabbat we don't. But that doesn't mean we don't go to work all year; there is spiritual work and there is work work. I think we would not like being on a year-long vacation from regula

Would You Marry Me After I Lost It?
28/08/2023 Duration: 02minSend us a textI was once pure and innocent, but I'm afraid I can't say that anymore. Why would He even want me?Good morning! A very gifted composer, Rabbi Hillel Paley, shared the following personal true story. A little over a year ago, there was a bus accident in which his son's bride of six months lost both of her legs. When she woke up from her coma, she had one question for her husband: "If you were to meet me after this accident without both of my legs, would you choose to marry me?" This question goes beyond what a lifetime of wisdom and study can prepare you for. It reveals who you truly are. He responded that if he had met her after the accident, it would have only affected you, and he wouldn't want to be a part of the story. However, because the accident happened after they were married, it didn't only happen to you; it happened to both of us. This is our shared challenge. Here's a beautiful prayer attributed to Rashi that says, "Love your bride, make a ne

Which Couple Has The Most Love?
27/08/2023 Duration: 02minSend us a textYou attend a wedding and beneath the chupa, you witness three couples: the enamored, excited bride and groom, and the emotional, teary-eyed parents of the bride and groom. Who possesses a greater love for one another: the parents or the newlywed couple?Good morning! In Chapter 24:14 of last week's portion, the Torah discusses those exempt from serving in battle and outlines three types of exemptions, including someone who has recently married. The Torah states that this individual should be free to be home, with no other responsibilities, in order to celebrate the person they just married. The Sefer Hachinuch explains that love takes time, and by remaining together and avoiding separation for any reason, their bond will solidify. This closeness will naturally foster attachment and attraction between them. There is an interesting discussion regarding the Torah's use of the word "celebrate" or "rejoice" in relation to the woman. Does it mean to rejoice with her or to ma
