Synopsis
It was psychologist Abraham Maslow who said "A first-rate soup is more creative than a second-rate painting." That was the starting point for my blog and this podcast. More than ever the world of work is a heady mix of people, behaviour, events and challenges. When the blend is right it can be first-rate. Behavioural science has a lot to offer in terms of recipes and ingredients - welcome to People Soup.

Reviews are in for Part 1 on my chat with Ann. I think Shelly Prosko from Canada summed it up beautifully. She said on twitter "Wonderful episode – such a lovely interview - Ann you are filled with insight, compassion and wisdom." Shownotes are at www.rossmcintosh.co.uk Connect with Ross and the show! Reflections on the ACBS UK&ROI Conference 2020
09/12/2020 Duration: 35minSeason 3 Episode 37 it’s a special episode – with three mini interviews. Way back in November 2020 – was the Association for Contextual Behavioural Science UK & ROI conference – a two day extravaganza of research, practice, insights and connection. Inspired by my pal Joe Oliver – I sponsored 4 students of organisational psychology to attend. In this episode you’ll hear from three of them – on their impressions of the conference, their standout moment and their own research interests. It was truly insightful to hear the variety and depth of their reflections. For those of you who haven’t come across the podcast before – we aim to nourish your mind to flourish at work, using evidence based behavioural science. And we’d love it if you’d support us by subscribing, reviewing and sharing. For now – get a brew on and have a listen to Sangita Bhalla, Alexandra Lechner and one student who preferred not to be named on their perspectives of the conference. Check-in with Dr Dayna Lee-Baggley
29/03/2020 Duration: 30minSeason 3 Episode 24 Hey P-Soupers - I almost called this episode 'Help, my caveman brain's on fire' but I thought that might be a bit niche. This is a check in with our previous guest, behaviour change expert, Registered Clinical Psychologist and author, Dr Dayna Lee-Baggley. We check-in on a whole range of topics to support ourselves and each other in these challenging times. Topics include: * how our brains are processing the information that we're being bombarded with and why our caveman mind is on fire; * how our frontal lobe battery might also be getting drained; * how we can think about the response to coronavirus as a war, where we're all working together towards the same goal; * reminding ourselves of our own values in physical isolation - we're supporting the most vulnerable in society and those caring for them; * how we can encourage emotional connection during physical isolation; * how we can create routine and purpose; * how we can take this time to re-evaluate what's important. ABC with Our Big G
22/03/2020 Duration: 26minSeason 3 Episode 23 Hey P-Soupers! I wanted to present a simple and useful resource for these extraordinary times and I also bring a very special guest - my 84 year old Dad, Big G. We have a chat about Basic Psychological Needs Theory which states that people strive to satisfy three innate needs, namely autonomy, belonging and competence (in every area of life). * Autonomy - is about the need to feel that our pursuits are self governed and self endorsed. Or in other words, to feel we have control over what we do. * Belonging - is about being connected socially and feeling integrated into a social group. * Competence - is about the need to be effective in our efforts; so we feel like we're developing skills and gaining knowledge. Some researchers called Deci and Ryan assert that needs for competence, relatedness, and autonomy are universal – they are essential, regardless of culture and life domain (Deci and Ryan, 1985b, 2000; Ryan and Deci, 2002). Have a listen to hear how my Dad has been approach
