  • The Compassionate Journey

    09/12/2022 Duration: 45min

People who are suffering or nearing the end of life often have spiritual needs as compelling as their physical concerns.  That person might find peace by resolving unsettled issues with friends or family.  They might appreciate and find comfort in visits from social workers or counselors.  Many people find solace in their faith.  In addition, the friends and family members of the person who is suffering often find themselves wondering what to do, and how to help while also coping with their own feelings.  Today Chaplain Terry is with us to discuss a compassionate journey and share his insight for those of us who are either faced with the journey ourselves or are journeying with a friend or loved one.    https://www.medshoprx.com/blog

  • Darrell Maze, Chaplain Aultman Compassionate Care Center

    02/12/2022 Duration: 43min

Hospice care is designed to help terminally ill people live out their final days in as much comfort as possible. The practical application of palliative care, in most cases, focuses on alleviating physical pain. But there are other elements involved.  Emotional, psychological, and spiritual comfort all take on vital importance at the end of life. Faith may take precedence over everything else in these moments. No matter what a hospice patient believes, the interconnected concepts of mind, body, and soul are deeply ingrained across most cultures. When faced with their own mortality, people often feel an urgent need to get their spiritual affairs in order. At its best, hospice care can allow patients to incorporate faith into their life during their final days as much or as little as they desire. This morning, Darrell will talk with us about his role as a hospice chaplain at Aultman Hospital. https://www.medshoprx.com

  • When To Use Urgent Care vs. Emergency Room

    14/11/2022 Duration: 42min

All too often, illness or injury appears out of the blue: You wake up in the middle of the night with intense abdominal pain. You stumble while carrying groceries up a flight of stairs, and cannot put weight on your swollen ankle. Or your baby spikes a high fever on the weekend.   When these situations occur, we’re often faced with uncertainty about where to go for care, especially if the symptoms seem severe and our regular doctor’s office is closed.   While the answer is not always simple, knowing the difference between a walk-in clinic, an urgent care center and a hospital emergency room can make a huge difference, especially if you have a medical emergency.   Today we will talk with Dr. Elias and learn about the difference between the Emergency Room and Urgent Care, while also discussing common health concerns during this cold and flu season. https://www.medshoprx.com/blog/difference-between-the-emergency-room-and-urgent-care-dr-jon-elias-medical-director-of-aultman-now-urgent-care

During the month of April, Occupational Therapy Month recognizes all the benefits this specialized healthcare provides, but many of us do not know what an Occupational Therapist does or how their care benefits our lives.   When injury strikes or long-term wear of joints and muscles require rehabilitation, an occupational therapist (also known as OTs) provides the necessary exercises to get us back into our daily routines. Simply getting out of bed may be a challenge or moving from one position to another becomes a problem we need to overcome. OTs have studied the movements required to make these transitions happen safely and to retrain our newly repaired body part to do the job. 05/11/2021 Duration: 50min

Hospice care is not just a place to go to die. Across the United States, over 5,500 hospices provide medical services for pain management, lend emotional support and offer spiritual resources and therapies as patients enter their last stage of life.  Some interesting facts about hospice care: Cancer is the largest category for hospice diagnoses, accounting for 37 percent of patients.  Over 65 percent of patients’ pain was brought to a comfortable level within 48 hours of admission and assessment. Over 70 percent of families would rate their hospice care for their loved one as excellent. While hospice care is being used more often, many families wished they had placed their loved one in the care of a provider sooner so their loved one could be more comfortable during their last days. Over 60 percent of patients only received care for 29 days. https://www.medshoprx.com/blog/hospice-and-palliative-care-with-chris-fankhouser-director-of-hospice-mercy-home-health-amp-hospice  https://my.clevelandclinic.org/loc
