Michael Medrano - The Stilthouses of Texas - #135
24/06/2020 Duration: 01h11minMichael Medrano is an angler and author who recently published a book on the Stilt Houses of Texas. Together with the photographer, Tim Romano, they traveled the entire Intracoastal waterway in Texas by boat, knocking on the doors of the homes found along that path—over 400 doors to be exact. Nowhere else in the country does a community exist where homes are constructed on stilts and placed in the water. Stilt Houses of Texas takes you on a photographic adventure to explore the State-run program in the breathtaking bays along the Texas coast. Tom and Michael were first acquainted on the remote flats of Christmas Island as they were both taking their boys of similar ages on a graduation trip. They fished together the entire week and became fast friends. Alternate - Every Minute on the Minute Workouts - PHYSICAL FRIDAY #65
19/06/2020 Duration: 04minWe have discussed workout acronyms before on this podcast. EMOM stands for Every minute On The Minute. This means that the athlete starts at the top of the minute and completes a task, for example, 15 burpees. If this takes 30 seconds to complete the athlete has 30 seconds of rest before having to start again with another 15 burpees. This would be an example of a single movement in the EMOM format. To offer some variety and to possible work in teams of 2, you can also incorporate an Alternate EMOM or ALT EMOM workout. An example of this would be 15 burpees, 15 Row calories. One athlete can do burpees while the other can do the row. They will switch at the top of each minute and continue for a period of time designated. You can do this with any 2 exercises. To find your reps, test the exercise on the clock. You are looking for the reps that you can complete in 30 - 40 seconds when fresh. Combine that with another exercise that you tested as well. Set the time you want to go and hit it. Here are some

Changes To The Podcast, Day 76 On Burpee Challenge - #TRPFitnessChallenge #019
15/06/2020 Duration: 09min“There are better things ahead than any we leave behind” -C.S. Lewis This quote was meaningful to me today as I decided to turn off many of the ads that are running on the podcast. After some thought, I made this decision based on trying to maintain the highest quality possible. Of course, for anything to be sustainable, some revenue must be generated. This comes in the form of ads. However, too many is too many so I am going to turn off the low paying ads and put back on my sales hat and bring in sponsors that are more in line with the content. Sponsors like Barracuda Tackle. We are also on day 76 of the burpee challenge which means that we have done 3419 burpees so far and have 2124 remaining. Stick with it and bring home the win! 100 Days Of Burpees And Life - PHYSICAL FRIDAY #64
12/06/2020 Duration: 10minOur 100-day burpee challenge is a good analogy for life in general. Take a massive amount of work and stare it down. It is easy to become intimidated and quit. However, successful people don’t do it that way. Winners look at that work and start to break it into manageable pieces. They use momentum to begin to accept and overcome larger challenges along the way and before they know it they have accomplished the task that once seemed so daunting. 11/06/2020 Duration: 01h03minFor one week each June, nearly two hundred crews prepare their state-of-the-art multimillion-dollar boats and head to the Gulf Stream in pursuit of the prize of the Atlantic—a prize-winning blue marlin. This year, Michael Jordan entered the 62nd installment of the annual tournament and made an immediate impact. Jordan and the crew on his boat, Catch 23, reeled in a 442-pound blue marlin Tuesday, the second day of the tournament in the basketball great's home state of North Carolina. How To Clear The Fly Line For Tarpon - HOW 2 TUESDAY #100
09/06/2020 Duration: 10minFlyfishing for tarpon is definitely one of the most exciting ways to fish for this incredible gamefish. It takes a coordinated effort between angler and guide and many things can go wrong in the process of presenting the fly, stripping, setting the hook and landing the fish. Often when you set the hook you have 30-50 feet of line at your feet. Getting that line onto the reel is a major obstacle in landing tarpon. I go over some tips on things to concentrate on that will have you setting the hook and clearing the line like a pro. Beep Test And Other Benchmarks - PHYSICAL FRIDAY #63
05/06/2020 Duration: 10minThe Multistage Fitness Test, also called the Beep Test or even the Bleep Test in some places, is a simple test of fitness. All you need is 20 m of open space and the audio linked in this article and you can test your fitness. You simply follow the cues on the audio and at the sound of the beep, run 20 m to the other line. Stop there and wait for the next beep which sends you to the other line. You will continue doing this as the time between the beeps decreases. When you can no longer keep up the test is over. A good score is over 9 for a regular individual, college athletes look for a 13 and pros are getting 17 or 18 rounds. The importance of this test is not necessarily just to see how well you do running back and forth, rather it is a benchmark that gauges general fitness. It is measurable, repeatable and can be done anywhere. Benchmarks like this one help us to stay on track and continue to stay motivated because you see improvement. Seeing improvement, even if it is just 1 second, 1 pound or 1

Pool Workouts For Summer Days - XPT vs. Bas Rutten - PHYSICAL FRIDAY #62
29/05/2020 Duration: 11minAs it gets further into summer and it gets hotter, I look for ways that I might be able to get workouts in cooler times of the day. Another way to get a reprieve from the heat is to incorporate water into your workouts. Swimming is one of the best exercises that a human being can do but not everyone has a pool big enough to swim laps. Some people find lap swimming really boring as well. There are other ways to get a solid, legit workout in a pool. We have discussed XPT Training before on the podcast. This is Laird Hamilton and Gabby Reece’ training program that basically mimics their lifestyle. They use dumbbells in a pool to do some great exercises that really are effective for strength, explosiveness and athletic performance. Another workout that I have tried recently is Bas Rutten’s Insane Pool workout. This can be done in a very small pool and will definitely give you a great workout. Avoid Hand Tears On Murph - PHYSICAL FRIDAY #61
22/05/2020 Duration: 18minA callous is created as a beautiful response from your body to adapt to a stimulus. You are doing something that is wearing off skin in a certain area like pullups, poling the boat, rowing the boat, lifting weights and your body develops a callus right at that spot. It also develops a callous only as thick as the work you are doing with it. So if you only do a little poling or lifting or a few pullups, you will have thin, small callouses. If you do a medium amount you have medium callouses. This is where the problem comes in. When a callous tears it is usually because you are asking more from your body than normal. Ripping a callous is really about friction. Friction pulls on the skin and you can usually take it. If you go a little more than normal, your body produces a little more callous without tearing but when you ask a lot more than normal it can tear if other factors are present as well. Excess friction can be caused by more reps but you can also be aware of other ways that friction can become
