Eyres On The Road

As we begin 2023, Linda and Richard talk about changing our view of family from the American definition of "parents and kids" to the World definition of "3-generations, kids, parents and grandparents." Outcomes are improved when parents and grandparents take a teamwork approach to raising children. The Eyres challenge us all to a New Year's resolution of creating this teamwork, and offer us the insights of Grandparenting101.com.

On Christmas Eve, the Eyres present 3-letter lesson #21 in their series. "ODE" is defined as a poem of praise, and they pose the question, "Why do prophets and sages spend do much time and effort praising God? Does God need our praise? No, it is about what God knows WE need--we need the perspective of His "everythingness" and our own "nothingness." Praise is important because it is the antidote to pride, and Christmas is the ideal time to start!

As Christmas approaches, Richard and Linda reflect on Christmases past and look to the future, but introduce the 3-letter lesson of NOW and the importance of living in the present and learning to love THIS moment in time. They challenge us, during this busy season, to pause and really be here, NOW, noticing the smiles, the surprises, and the momentary joys that we often miss.

In this episode, Richard and Linda carry on with their monthly gratitude challenges and encourage us to incorporate the beauty-full concept of Grace into our entries in our gratitude journals. They invite us to consider the relationship between being grateful and being grace-full. General thankfulness is fine, but only when it has a deeply felt object or focus and the subject or recipient of God does it begin to fill with Grace.

That title may mislead--but on today's episode the Eyres talk first about Christmas Traditions and recall some of their most cherished family memories at Christmas. Then they shift gears to concerns over the materialism of Christmas and how to separate the giving from the getting in children's minds. They conclude by mentioning their Grandparenting101.com Zoom seminar this week which focuses on helping grandkids financially without entitlement.

In the aftermath of Thanksgiving, Richard and Linda focus on three 11-letter "S" words that they feel are the keys to true happiness; and each word is the opposite of or the antidote for an attitude or paradigm that makes us miserable. The opposite of the false concept of Ownership is Stewardship. The antithesis of Control is Serendipity, and the antidote for Independence is Synergicity. As Thanksgiving approaches, the Eyres spend this episode talking about the relationship between three "G" words: Gratitude, Generosity, and Graciousness. Richard and Linda are still in London this week, and start today's show with some observations about the West End Theater district and the powerful symbolism of a couple of new productions--which leads into the October Gratitude Journal challenge--to write down each day a blessing that we don't deserve, have not earned, and could never repay, often connected to Christ's Atonement, the greatest of all gifts.

Finishing their "spiritual creation" trip in France with four of their older children and their spouses, the Eyre's broadcasted today from London and focused on the goal that many parents have of raising children who are "Citizens of the World" who view other cultures, religions, and customs positively and with tolerance and appreciation. They are joined on the second half of the show by their son Jonah who comments on the "Citizens" subject.

Today's episode comes to us from Paris where the Eyre's are gathering with some of their children, particularly the ones that live in Europe. Richard and Linda follow up on their Grandparenting 101 Zoom course that started last week, and are then joined by Saren, Shawni, and Saydi, three of the four daughters who have just launched a new podcast called In The Arena with the Eyre sisters. Together, they talk from Paris about "Intentional, Deliberate Parenting."

Today the Eyre's cast from Balboa and talk about their speaking and workshops in Huntington Beach this week to 500 entrepreneurs who had gathered from around the world to think about and work on their Relationship Skills.
