  • The Buddha’s Renunciation

    20/03/2021 Duration: 14min

In this videoconference talk from 19 March, 2021, Ajahn Anan discusses the parami of Nekkhamma, renunciation. "In the Buddhist Mahayana tradition, 20th March 2021 is the anniversary of when the Buddha practised Nekkhamma parami, the spiritual perfection of renunciation. So we can reflect on the Bodhisattva who was born as the son of the great King Suddhodana, and who had the parami to rule over the four directions as a wheel-turning monarch. However, he saw that no matter how much power and virtue he had like this, it would not lead to freedom from old age, sickness and death. He must still part from loved ones and loved things. So he renounced everything in order to realise the truth, and spread the Dhamma until it reached us."
