Fictional Females

Selena and a handful of other survivors make their way from the heart of London to a military checkpoint in the hopes of finding a safe haven from the ultra-violent infected that are dominating the city.

Happy October. This is the first of four Horror themed episodes for Halloween and our one year anniversary. This episode covers Ellen Ripley from the Alien franchise.

Our first animal Fictional Female. We discuss The Secret of NIMH and the very smart mouse, Mrs Brisby. She may be the most maternal character we have covered so far.

This episode delves into the Japanese film Princess Mononoke, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. This is a tale of nature vs progress, war vs peace. domain of man vs spirituality. The film is full of dynamic and complex women.

This episode we discuss Lilo and Nani from Lilo and Stitch. A sister duo that try to find the new meaning of family after the death of their parents and adopting a very strange “dog.”

Listen to us discuss 10 year old Dorothy Gale of Wizard of Oz fame. She talks to animals, kills witches and helps her friends. What other preteen can do that?

This episode discussed Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter franchise. One the most beloved fictional females ever. What Hogwarts house would you be in?

We discuss Imperator Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road, the winner of our action poll. Listen as we discuss apocalypse scenarios and the many, many, many wonderful female characters. This is a more recent movie so spoiler alert.

This episode covers the book Monstrous Regiment by author Terry Pratchett.   The book is about a group of women dressing in men’s clothing in order to fight in a war.    The author has a particular gift for describing boy’s walks.  We want suggestions for female authors from the listeners.

For Father’s Day we are discussing Shilo from the cult classic Repo and her extremely complicated relationship with her father. Listen as we discuss her attempts to try and live her own life while coping with the lies and murder.

We are switching it up and discussing a villain for the first time on Fictional Females. Mystique, AKA Raven Darkholme is a classic X-men villain. Be prepared for ranting about comic vs movie.

Our first Mother’s Day episode is about the Scottish princess, Merida from Brave.  The film is a rare Disney story about mothers and daughters.  During the discussion we realize that we are maybe not the Disney demographic anymore.

This episode discusses Irene Adler, from Sherlock Holmes. We compare the written story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the BBC show Sherlock. Boobs are discussed.

This is an extended and spoiler filled episode covering the main character of BBC’s The Fall. The show follows a female detective squaring off against a male serial killer. It tackles many strong themes including sexuality, murder, mental illness, and domestic violence. We here at Fictional Females highly recommend it.

This episode we will discuss Susy Hendrix, a recently blinded woman who will have to see her way through a tangle of lies to figure out how to protect herself and her husband. We discuss her struggle to become not only self sufficient but to stay alive.

In this episode we will discuss the strong willed Beatrice from Shakespeare’s play Much Ado About Nothing. She has wit and wisdom, sass and sauce. Also most everyone else are poor communicators.
