Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has broken his silence on the decision to charge Everton with a breach of Profit and Sustainability Regulations for the second time in just over a year. On Monday the Toffees were landed with another charge for a breach of PSR and will, along with Nottingham Forest, be referred to an independent commission, a move made at the same time as the club are already appealing against the first decision of the commission to hand the club a 10-point deduction. Should Everton be found guilty by the independent commission then they could suffer a second points deduction in the same season, with the club unhappy that they are being punished twice having already been charged for 75% of the breaches over the three-year period. Everton have been charged with a further breach of spending regulations by the Premier League.The club was today formally notified of new allegations after a review of the accounts for the football financial year that ended last summer. Everton now have a fortnight to respond to the accusations, which are expected to end up before an independent commission that will aim to assess the case before the end of this season. The only thing that could impact that process would be if the club has significant success in its appeal against the 10 point deduction it has already received under the same regulations. The club's focus is on that appeal, believing its findings will directly impact the arguments at the centre of the new case. It is anticipated the appeal will be concluded before the new case is considered. If Everton are ultimately found to have breached profit and sustainability regulations again then the club could face a further

Everton have launched an appeal against the red card handed to Dominic Calvert-Lewin against Crystal Palace. The forward was sent off amid controversy in the FA Cup third round at Selhurst Park after referee Chris Kavanagh was ordered to review his challenge on Nathaniel Clyne. Kavanagh had seen no issue with the incident in real-time but, predictably, reversed his call once he was sent to the pitch side monitor. It was a contentious decision that has sparked outrage inside and outside the Everton camp. And while the Blues were still able to fight through the adversity and take the game to a replay it will have serious consequences for the club. Everton's run in the Carabao Cup ended in heartbreak after losing to a penalty shootout in the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Fulham. Penalty misses from Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye saw the Cottagers prevail 7-6. Abdoulaye Doucoure has netted 15 times for Everton in his century of matches, giving him an overall strike rate of a goal every 6.67 games.
