Basketball Conference: The Acc Football Podcast

Week 1 in the ACC went largely as expected, aside from a couple of major surprises late in the weekend. Mike is back from his trip to Tallahassee, joining Joey in recapping all of the action from the ACC's opening weekend!

WE MADE IT! Week 1 is here, and it's time to preview all of the major matchups of the week in the ACC. -- Is FSU (-7.5) too big of a favorite at home to start the year? -- Will Miami (-3) be able to take down a hungry LSU team in Dallas? -- Can Louisville (+25) cover a ludicrous spread against the Crimson Tide?

2017 was always going to be a rebuild year for the Tar Heels, and that was BEFORE they got hit with an unprecedented number of injuries. With plenty of experience built into their depth chart going into 2018, will UNC rebound or continue their struggles?

The Blue Devils finished 7-6 in 2017 after a hot start, and return their QB among several other playmakers in 2018. Will a tricky early schedule be Duke's demise in attempting to return to bowl season? Justin Cates from InsidetheACC.com joins Mike to talk all things Duke in 2018!

Sean Bedford joins from the Georgia Tech Radio Network to preview the Yellow Jackets in 2018! After riding higher expectations after 2016, the Yellow Jackets' 2017 season fell flat after several late-game defensive collapses. What could've easily been an 8-3 or 9-2 season ended up with Georgia Tech at 5-6 and missing a bowl game. With a new defensive coordinator in place and plenty of rebuilding in the secondary to do, can the Yellow Jackets bounce back and potentially be a dark horse to win the Coastal?

Clemson won the ACC (in dominant fashion) and made it to the College Football Playoff in a rebuilding year in 2017. That team returns most of its defense and its quarterback, and has a chance to be even better in 2018. Are the Tigers in line to win a second national title in three years?

Ethan Moore joins from 93.9 "The 'Ville" to preview Louisville's 2018 campaign! After nearly winning the Atlantic in Lamar Jackson's Heisman-winning 2016 season, the Cardinals finished 2017 with a somewhat unsatisfying 8-5 record and a frustrating bowl loss. With a generational talent like Jackson to replace, and the Notorious BVG in place commanding a rebuilding defense, how will the Cardinals fare in 2018?

After 3+ decades with Bobby Bowden, December saw Florida State bid farewell to Jimbo Fisher after just 8 seasons. With up-and-coming head coach Willie Taggart now in place, and Deondre Francois healthy again, Florida State might be college football's biggest wild card in 2018. It's time to talk about the 'Noles.

This offseason has been far from ideal for Justin Fuente and his Virginia Tech Hokies. While there's a rebuild to do on defense, can Josh Jackson make a major leap in Year 2 and lead the Hokies in recapturing the Coastal Division?

"The U" was back in 2017, at least for 10 weeks. With so many close wins, was 2017 a fluke, or is 2018 the time for Miami to finally finish the drill? What's the QB situation look like? Cam Underwood of StateoftheU.com makes his triumphant return to talk all that and more!

The season has officially started with the ACC Kickoff from Greensboro, which gave us PLENTY of talking points to hit on -- not the least of which were Larry Fedora's strange takes on CTE (which may have just been meant as a cover-up to some recruiting violations that were announced around the same time). Bronco Mendenhall said a couple of interesting things, as did a couple of other coaches. What would our initial media poll ballots have looked like?
