As the son of musician Jack Bruce (Cream), Malcolm has always been immersed in a musical environment. He grew up hearing and experiencing firsthand some of the finest musicians around, whether through his father’s frequent collaborations with musicians such as Tony Williams or John Mclaughlin, or Jack’s own bands with musicians like Simon Phillips and Mick Taylor. He is a 2016-17 Biography Fellow at the Leon Levy Center for Biography, where he is working on a biography of the tenor saxophonist and composer Sonny Rollins. He plays baritone saxophone in the Stan Rubin Orchestra and is a doctoral student in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. Cindy Lee Berryhill is a singer-songwriter and a Los Angeles native who has released 6 acclaimed albums and many compilations since Who’s Gonna Save The World? (Rhino/Capitol) debuted in October 1987. She has worked with Patti Smith guitarist Lenny Kaye on several albums. Berryhill coined the name Antifolk which she and her friends, including Beck, called their disenfranchised music on the lower east side of Manhattan, and the name/genre continues on today with young artists coming out of Europe. You may have seen her and her son (by late husband Crawdaddy Magazine founder, Paul Williams) starring in that CoveredCalifornia health-care commercial, if you were on the west coast. In fact the reason she was cast in the commercial was due her very popular blog about caring for her ailing husband; Beloved Stranger. David Godlis couldn’t believe it the night that Robert Frank walked into CBGB.“I was hanging out around the door and I thought, oh my god, that’s Robert Frank,” he says. “For me, that was the biggest thing that could happen, because I had studied photography and he was one of my idols.”Godlis says that from the moment he walked into CBGB, which was soon after he arrived in New York, he started thinking about doing a photo book. Brian Ashley Jones is a soulful singer, acclaimed session guitarist, and versatile touring songwriter whose "Twang & Blues" guitar-driven tunes have found their way into film and television and have been recorded by many other performing artists. Born and raised in London, Simon landed a gig with a group called the Black Cat Bones. The drummer befriended the group's talented guitarist, Paul Kossoff, who in turn convinced Simon to leave the group with him and begin a new outfit with singer Paul Rodgers. Soon ex-John Mayall's Bluesbreakers bassist Andy Fraser signed on and Free was officially formed in 1968. Mixing blues with hard rock, the group would prove to be quite influential, especially on the strength of their classic Fire and Water, "All Right Now." When the band broke up, it didn't take Simon long to find another gig, joining Paul Rodgers in a new band, Bad Company.
