The last couple of weeks has been all about being able to roll with it. Whatever it is I've just had to roll with it. I hope I don't sound angry on this one but I definitely had some stuff that I had to get off my chest. I've also cut some people out of my life lately. That doesn't come from a bad place either. I've just been noticing that to some people I've been a better friend to them than they have to me. It's not ever about not liking these people, it's just about liking me more. Last weekend I did my shows at the Thunderbird Hotel and they turned out great but it was one hiccup after another and there were points when I felt discouraged but I kept going. On this episode of Unbothered by Thai Rivera I talk about the conversation I had on the phone with comedian Alex Elkin about last week's episode. I don't think Alex is a bad guy but I definitely think he has bit of a blind spot. I also talk about the responsibility that I think some of us have as comedians to not only speak but also to listen. I know some comedians will disagree but I also know that some people in general will refuse to grow and some of those people happen to be comedians. I also mention at the end that I think all of this may be winding down for me so maybe I care a little more about the message I leave in my wake. I was going through a little bit of a depression because of my residency situation and I'll talk more about that in an upcoming episode but for now my mind wanted to escape that and I let it do just that. I'm basically torn on how to handle these things sometimes because no matter which side I go with there will still be things that I'm not comfortable. Well this episode of Unbothered by Thai Rivera is called Kimmels n Bits because it was recorded the very weekend all that BS went down with Jimmy Kimmel's sister. That weekend my friend and GREAT comic Cody Woods happened to be in town with his wife Nancy. So of course I knew Cody would make the perfect guest. This episode of Unbothered by Thai Rivera may BOTHER some people but I have known Diaz Mackie for many years. I can't say I remember exactly what year he was accused in but the accusations never fully added up for me. Since then he has been in jail, served 2.5 years probation, been removed from shows and festivals and had his life turned upside down. If I thought he deserved it, if I thought he was guilty I would not have had him on my podcast. But I definitely did have questions for him and I'm honest with him on this episode about what didn't add up for me. We recorded this episode about 2 weeks ago on the day that Derek Chauvin was found guilty. I mention this because I think it says something about people that they will march in the streets because they admit that the criminal justice system isn't always fair with Black men specifically/especially but then when they see a Black man going through the system before their own eyes there's no compassion, sympathy, empathy or even benefit of the doubt. Anyway,

The LATEST EPISODE of Unbothered by Thai Rivera is called Warrior. Ironically because really I'm done fighting. At some point you have to move on and let people say what they say. I clear up one story that stays persistent regarding a comedian I took on the road at a point. We all seem to agree that taking bits of another comedian's jokes and "remixing" them is wrong but for some reason when you call another comedian out for it, others on the scene will make it seem like you've done something wrong.
