3 Men And A Movie

This is the second week running we've done an Audience Selection. And you know what... why not! Lynn Montgomery-Hawke selected this little Richard Linklater ditty from 1995. Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Céline (Julie Delpy) cross paths and spend just 24 hours together in Vienna. She was worried about what Gordy would make of it, however she suggested she was sure Cross would like it. How will they roll with it? Another audience selection this week. So it's a thank you Dave Brindle for his nice little selection of some very early Spielberg action with Duel. Gordy and Cross have both hit Black Panther in recent weeks, but also had the fortune to hit Blade on 35mm as part of the Glasgow Film Festival. It felt apt to compare and contrast and discuss the latest Marvel superhero flick! With the added cultural significance that seems to be in tow with it. Hope you enjoy! One of Gordy's favourite movies of all time comes to the 3 Man Table this week. It's one Cross had seen at release, however he'd forgotten enough of it to warrant a revisit. Based on Bret Easton Ellis' novel of the same name we tackle The Rules of Attraction. Written and Directed by Roger Avary and starring a post-Dawson's Creek Van Der Beek. As well as Shannyn Sossamon, Ian Somerhalder and Kip Pardue. Moral choices and life experiences come into the discussions as well as the usual nonsense. At some point in almost all our lives we've experienced frustration with our work colleagues. Maybe The Belko Experiment offers the perfect solution to address that aggro... In any case Gordy and Cross get into it, chatting over this movie from the director of Wolf Creek and the writer of Guardians of the Galaxy.

As Arnie said he'd be back, so did we. So here we are, kicking of the new season with a retrospective look at the Terminator Franchise (we only recognise two of them as Canon). More specifically Gordy and Cross have differing opinions on which of the two is the superior. It's great to be back, we hope you enjoy! 

Gordy and Cross, as they did with The Force Awakens, hit the midnight showing of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. What would the verdict be?   ***Disclaimer*** Gordy has now seen it twice and his verdict has changed significantly.

 Gordy and Cross hit up the newly released Blade Runner 2049 as part of our ongoing Hot Take series. Both fans of the original 1982 movie, how would this new Denis Villeneuve effort be received? *SPOILERS EVERYWHERE*

"Be open minded." Cross said. Gordy was open minded. Did that lead to Cross success with his choice of Hudson Hawk, a Bruce Willis movie from the early 90s that had passed Gordy by.

Audience selection once again, and it's thanks to Kirsty McGregor who has requested that Gordy and Cross get together to watch What We Do In The Shadows.  Directed by Taika Waititi (Wilderpeople and Thor: Ragnarok) it follows the daily lives of a group of vampiric flatmates and the struggles they face. Would this mockumentary go down better with Gordy than Spinal Tap did? And Cross was already a convert... would it be a united thumbs up?

Gordy and Cross revisit peak Cameron and Schwarzenegger with a big screen outing for T2 3D! They were both fans (who wouldn't be) but how would this reassessment pan out?

Cross and Gordy venture to the Australian suburbs of 1987 to 'enjoy' the inspired by real life Hounds of Love. Last time we journeyed to Australia was for Wake In Fright. Will this be any less traumatic...

Baby Driver has been quite the success story as things have turned out. A few weeks ago and fresh from having seen it, Gordy and Cross talked it out. Gordy has generally taken a stance against Edgar Wright considering him vastly overrated amongst other things, whilst Cross has been a staunch fan and loving most, if not all of the output. Which side of the fence will they fall on with this one?

Criminally overlooked on its initial release, Jonathan Demme's spirited yuppie nightmare gem features early turns from Melanie Griffith and Jeff Daniels, and also features Ray Liotta in his screen debut. Will Gordy & Cross be wild about it..?

Gordy naturally slides from Weird Science to Martha Marcy May Marlene. Elizabeth Olsen delivered a remarkable performance in her debut. And John Hawkes is sublime. With some cult dynamics and a little speculation that it's a way of life Cross would like (minus the most unsavoury moments... obviously) It wasn't widely seen, but very much well worth a watch. And Gordy with a *GOOD MOVIE ALERT* klaxon (Cheers Mitch! But all my movies are AWESOME) it's well worth a listen. 

Cross invites Mitch and Gordy to partake in some uneasy laughs with his selection of Chris Morris' Four Lions. A comedy about terrorism..!

Mitch invites Gordy & Cross to experience some old school Hollywood class in the shape of George Cukor's timeless tale of celebrity culture, 'art vs money' and the search for true love, as Cary Grant 's C.K. Dexter Haven crashes the wedding of his ex-wife Tracy Lord (Katharine Hepburn). Will they be raising a toast, or raising objections?
