    Polly J. Price is an award-winning legal historian and Professor of Law and Global Health at Emory University. She is the author of the new book, Plagues in the Nation: How Epidemics Shaped America, which is a narrative history of America through major outbreaks. The book examines how law and government affected the outcome of the epidemics that struck America, and how those outbreaks have in turn shaped our government.

  • Flip the Library: Hooper-Renwick, Jason DiFranco

    Jason DiFranco is the Director of Development and Community Partnerships at Gwinnett County Public Library. One of the projects he has been working on is gathering support for the restoration of the historic Hooper-Renwick building, which housed Gwinnett County’s only high school for Black children until desegregation in 1968. The building will be converted into a 25,000-square-foot museum and house Gwinnett County Public Library’s new Lawrenceville branch. Hooper-Renwick Legacy Preservation Committee chair and vice-chair Theresa Bailey and Joyce Moore also join the podcast to talk more about this important project and their place in its history.

Twain's End was a People Magazine Book of the Week.  Her novels have been translated into seventeen languages and she has appeared on PBS American Masters. Her newest novel, The Sisters of Summit Avenue is a moving and heartfelt tribute to mothers, daughters, and sisters everywhere. In this episode, she discusses her early memories of libraries, her writing process, why she likes writing about strong women throughout history, and her upcoming book, The Woman with the Cure.

    Authors Annotated is a Gwinnett County Public Library podcast, where we chat with authors about their work, their creative processes, and their love of libraries. Martin Padgett has written books, features, product reviews, and news for 30 years and is the author of A Night at the Sweet Gum Head: Drag, Drugs, Disco, and Atlanta's Gay Revolution. He earned his MFA in narrative nonfiction writing from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. He was named a 2019 Lambda Literary Fellow. He is a PhD candidate in History at Georgia State University. Marty lives in Pensacola Beach with his husband, their cat, and an overflowing file of future story ideas.
