  • MMPR 46: To Flea or Not To Flee

    19/08/2014

TO FLEA, OR NOT TO FLEE… this is the question, and the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode title, on the podcast this week! Amanda joins us again to bring cynicism to the events and question Jason's hotness. Here's some of what goes down: Want a great game where you manage a team of Sentai heroes? Well Saban sure doesn't want you to have it! We fawn over the Legacy Power Rangers toys previewed at San Diego Comic-Con. We meet The Fighting Flea! After a few weeks of creative monsters, this is just… a big flea. WIth a funny voice. Hm. There's a discussion about Mat's use of the word 'nips'. Things are looking bleak for Ernie. He even has slings a few gallows-humour-esque comments at a dog. We don't know what chilli is! Hijinks ensue. Why is Rita's arsenal of spells so limited? Theories are put forward! AND SO MUCH MORE!!!

  • MMPR 45: Crystal of Nightmares

    12/08/2014

This week on the podcast, we ingest the CRYSTAL OF NIGHTMARES - or at least the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode of that name - with returning people's champion Amanda! Here's some of what goes down on the show: We discuss the newly announced writers of the upcoming Power Rangers movie, and Michael proves to be literally the only person in the world who wants to see Ivan Ooze back. We read listener mail! And we learn that, in Zyuranger, King Sphinx is basically the Riddler from Batman, except if you fail his riddles, he turns you into a tree. THAT'S SUBLIME! Ever fantasised about Bulk in a maid outfit? Well, too god damned bad because here it is!! We educate Amanda vis-á-vis what happens at teenage boy sleepover parties. What do Two-Face, the Penguin, Helen Mirren, and geriatric romance have in common? You'll find out, and still be confused! THE RANGER DANGER CIVIL WAR IS ON!! Mat VS Michael! Batman: The Animated Series VS ReBoot! Who's side are you on?! AND SO MUCH MORE!!

  • MMPR 44: Lions and Blizzards

    05/08/2014

This week on the podcast - Jen's back, and we watch the Mighty Morpin' Power Rangers episode LIONS AND BLIZZARDS… oh my! Here's some of what goes down: Why don't American soldiers fly to the moon to fight Rita? Um, because she's a crazy moon witch with a flying golden lion man as a lackey. Are Rita's evil schemes part of a grand tax dodge scheme, or is it a tourism stunt for Angel Grove? There's an original song in this episode! It is called 'Fight!' It contains the lyric 'Fight!' It plays when the Rangers are 'Fight!'-ing. Poetry. GOATAN THE STORM BRINGER!! GOATAN THE GOAT LION!! What IS this show?! Every Goatan goes, he always takes the weather, the weather with hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim. The show makes an /incredibly/ dirty joke and we can't even fathom how it made it past the censors. Our Popcorn Alarms are going off! AND SO MUCH MORE!!!!!

  • MMPR 43: Something Fishy

    29/07/2014

On the podcast this week, brand new guest Jen joins us for SOMETHING FISHY! Um, that makes it sound sketchy. That's the title of the Mighty Morpin' Power Rangers episode that we watch, I swear. Here's some of what goes down. Still no Green Ranger. He "lost his powers in a terrible candle accident." We all collectively nostalgia freak out when The Secret World of Alex Mack is mentioned. We discuss how Tommy was probably responsible for inspiring a lot of bad, long 90s hair. Guest Jen is trying to start a publication to help young creatives. Help her out or you're evil like Rita and a coward like Goldar. The Putties have a weakness! Getting eskies on their heads, apparently! "You've got to shimmy to shoot your goo." We learn what 'sport' Ernie plays. No surprises there >.> AND SO MUCH MORE!!!!

  • MMPR 42: A Pig Surprise

    22/07/2014

A beautiful thing happens this week on the podcast, as we watch the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode A PIG SURPRISE!!! And it is a pig surprise! Also, Lauren's back. Here's some of what goes down: We're told that, in the Japanese version of the show, the Megazord is basically God. If we have to learn about Jesus, then let it be with him as a giant robot. We throw down the gauntlet! A fight to FIRST PAIN! Mat: "I'd be a hot villain, like Astronema." Bulk forms a bond with an animal and we're genuinely moved. I think we can chalk this one up to the Stockholm Syndrome. One of favourite villains returns, and we almost weep with joy. It doesn't disappoint. Speaking of favourite villains, we debut a new segment! And we need YOU to name it! AND SO MUCH MORE!!!!

  • MMPR 41: Rita’s Seed of Evil

    15/07/2014

Fan favourite guest Lauren returns to watch the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode Rita's Seed of Evil this week on the podcast! Here's some of what goes down: We prove our status as the number one Power Rangers podcast amongst people who are called Branden. Find out what reduces Michael to an empty husk of a man. (What doesn't?) We discuss Gunblade, which is basically Power Rangers crossed with Iron Man, with a budget somewhere between those two things. The monster this week wants to hug the Earth to death. Those are the high, high stakes of Power Rangers. "Nothing says rockin' out like planting some trees." I'd like to blanket apologise for all the traumatising poop talk on this episode. Do the tears of a virgin help plants grow? Enquiring minds want to know. AND SO MUCH MORE!!!!

  • MMPR 40: Doomsday Part II

    08/07/2014

This week on the podcast, it's DOOMSDAY! AGAIN! BECAUSE IT'S EPISODE DOOMSDAY PART 2! OF MIGHTY MORPHIN' POWER RANGERS! DOOOOOOOOOOM! Here's some of what goes down: Kelsey sends us our most comprehensive fan mail yet! Your move, Branden and John! We misunderstand American culture! High five for cultural ignorance! Kelsey breaks down for us the many of Wizard of Oz references in Power Rangers that we somehow totally missed. Time to hand in our Power Rangers Expert badges :( We lament the eternal lack of MegaZordOn. You might notice that this description isn't mentioning what happens in the actual TV episode so much. That's because it's a big poop. Sorry guys. Hopefully listening to our podcast episode is more enjoyable than watching the damn thing. Case in point: Titanus' death from the last episode is reversed by the show's editors literally just playing the footage of his death in reverse. I wish this was a joke. Spoiler warning: To give us a small something to stop us rage quitting the show,

  • MMPR 39: Doomsday Part I

    01/07/2014

New guests Dane and Rhi join us as we watch the first part of the quasi-season finale of the first season of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers! It's DOOMSDAY!!!! ...PART ONE! Here's some of what goes down on the show: It's Power Rangers Day in Angel Grove! Come celebrate with big, colourful, ambiguous tube things in the park! So apparently Goldar has a Megazord now? *record scratch* "I don't understand how a wind can be evil, but that's fine." Zack almost breaks one of his most sacred Power Rangers vows to get with Angela. But, y'know. We've all been there. Oh you know that Megazord thing Goldar has? It's "like a giant, mechanical, three-eyed genie". Because of course it is. "For some reason they decided that having the Power Rangers punching Satan in the face wouldn't be awesome." AND SO MUCH MORE!!!

  • Special: Zyuranger: Presenting! The Vicious Squadron

    27/06/2014

This weekend, Timothy joins Mat, Michael, and the Zyurangers for our very first special episode, as they tackle Zyuranger Episode 46: Presenting! The Vicious Squadron! Here's just some of what goes down: It's our very first special episode! We do a quick rundown of Zyuranger's backstory, in case you're coming in without having seen any Zyuranger before. Spoilers: it's about 10,000 times cooler than Power Rangers. We spend a lot of time wondering why we're not watching this instead. What do Elvis, Walt Disney, Hitler, Fry from Futurama, and the woman from the Doctor Who Christmas Special have in common? We're not sure either, to be honest. "It's also great commentary on why you shouldn't just trust the news media." How long does it take an angry mob of Japanese people to get to stoning? It's less time than you'd think. Whoo boy. The bathtub scene. I'm not saying any more. You deserve to be surprised like we were. "Beep our boops and do the stuff." AND MUCH MORE!

  • MMPR 38: A Bad Reflection On You

    24/06/2014

This week on the podcast, it's A BAD REFLECTION ON YOU! I mean, that's the name of the episode we're watching. You're looking great. Here's some of what goes down: We're now on Stitcher! Ladies love Stitcher. (Mat doesn't know what Stitcher is.) We had an Irish fan, but then Mat started racial stereotyping... He does lead us to discover another bizarre design choice in the Zord formations. We announce our first ever SPECIAL EPISODE! *arm flailing* There's evil Power Rangers! You'll feel their evil when they give the city a big thumbs down menacingly. The evil Rangers use plumbing equipment for legitimate plumbing work... but in an EVIL WAY! Well, evil-ish. Maybe evil adjacent. Bulk has an infinite lunchbox, and boy, does that raise more questions than it answers. We're still stuck on this one. "Listen. Zack had a good plan, Jason cocked it up. Again." But, let's be honest: it's not a great plan. And we dive into the world of Power Rangers/NCIS crossover fanfiction. Yup. AND SO MUCH MORE!!!

  • MMPR 37: Clean-Up Club

    17/06/2014

We reduce, reuse and record a podcast this week we watch the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers episode CLEAN-UP CLUB! Here’s some of what goes down: Mat talks about how he used to play Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons in his high school lunch breaks, and then Michael immediately trumps that (if you can ‘trump’ sad and pathetic-ness). We (basically) discuss whether or not Baboo and Squatt have a soul. Spoiler warning: probs not. “What makes a furnace diabolical?” “Oh you know, it has a lot of evil looking tubes and shit.” “What were we talking about? I got distracted by ninja vampires.” Meet Polluticorn, which Michael calls “the best thing I’ve seen on this show.” He’s exactly what you think he is, and it’s pretty great. Michael promises that he will do a flip on camera for episode 200. And now he has to, because it’s now an eternal internet promise! “Polluticorn is going to steal your pic-a-nic basket.” – “And then poop in it.” Yeah. There’s a lot for us to be actively ashamed of in

  • MMPR 36: Birds of a Feather

    10/06/2014

Everyone has left us - even the Green Ranger - for this week's episode of Ranger Danger! We're so alone! In Birds of a Feather: Learn! The meaning of the phrase "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"! Wonder! At the emails we received! And Michael's associated psychological damage! Confuse! What exactly is a Cardiotron, and why is it a robot? Quote! "There's a limited audience for a Power Rangers podcast, but there's an even more limited audience for a Power Rangers podcast that starts talking about The West Wing." Business! Mat and I have an idea so good that we almost cut it out of the podcast. Fear! The Electric Hug of the Hatchasaurus! AND MUCH MORE!!!

  • MMPR 35: The Green Candle Part II

    03/06/2014

Disaster (and very chaste romance) strike the Green Ranger on the podcast this week, as we watch the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers episode ‘The Green Candle, Part 2’ with Kaley! We discuss the Free Comic Book Day Power Rangers comic, which revives our favourite secondary Power Rangers character that is a ‘scientifically’ enchanced Volkswagen Beetle. Sentai are doing a dinosaur themed Power Rangers team-up, which sees their equivalents of MMPR, Dino Thunder and Dino Charge band together. If we don’t get one of these, we’re gonna be so sad, you guys. Like, sitting-in-an-empty-bathtub-eating-ice-cream-from-the-tub-whilst-weeping sad. Mat about the episode: “It actually had some dramatic weight to it... which was profoundly surprising.” Michael: “With actors who could act, it would have been touching.” We’re not proud of our use of the phrase “going into her dark dimension.” “The notion that Bulk and Skull just go and fuck around playing Monkeys In The Grass is the least surprising thing to happen in t

  • MMPR 34: The Green Candle Part I

    27/05/2014

Kaley joins the podcast for the first time as we start to burn the Green Candle from both ends. This week on Ranger Danger: There's a Power Rangers movie coming. We don't talk about it much, by which we mean we talk about it for a fair while. We have opinions. That probably doesn't surprise you. There are parts of this episode that are well-executed. No-one is more surprised than we are. "Even bring in a giant Godzilla robot doesn't stop you from being emotionally vulnerable, Michael." Visit scenic Angel Grove! We have as many as 5 scenic destinations, including the quarry and the abandoned industrial estate! The triumphant return of Goldar's dungeon! You know you've missed it. And now he's got a bondage sword! "You're going to call it "summoning the Dragonzord", aren't you?" AND MUCH MORE!!!

  • MMPR 33: The Yolk’s On You!

    20/05/2014

This week, THE YOLK'S ON YOU! No don't worry, there's no actual egg on you (though we'd tell you if there was), that's just the title of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode we watch on the podcast this week. We do a cost/benefit analysis on the prospect of city councils upgrading their parking rangers to Power Rangers. If Bill Gates spent his fortune on building a Megazord, would we then have to create a Moon Witch for it to fight to justify the investment? Impersonating Godzilla is in bad taste in Angel Grove, where kaiju attacks happen almost daily. Billy wears a cowboy outfit to the talent show, but nothing comes of that. We're still trying to work through the disappointment. Tommy runs through the park, but stops for a moment to jump kick a leaf. Gotta keep sharp, yo. This week's monster is um, a bit problematic. Racially. AND SO MUCH MORE!!

  • MMPR 32: A Star Is Born

    13/05/2014

It's a podcast by candlelight as Sarah joins us to watch the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode 'A Star Is Born'! If by 'star' you mean 'overwhelming aversion to mayonnaise', then it's an accurate episode title! Here's some of what goes down: We discuss the Jason David Frank well, and how many times we can dip down in it. Which OG Power Rangers would we like to see return for Dino Charge? "You should dress to your body type, and for Bulk, that is NOT wearing a leather jacket and a scarf... and nothing else on top." I don't even want to talk about what happens with the mayonnaise :(. Zordon and Alpha had to have a conversation about professionalism in the workplace. "Warn the Rangers that Goldar has sent down Babe Ruthless, the Baseball Monster!!" AND SO MUCH MORE!!

  • MMPR 31: Calamity Kimberly

    06/05/2014

On the podcast this week, Michael and Mat watch the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode Calamity Kimberly. It's not calamitous, but it's a surprising amount of fun! Our list of the 30 best monsters Power Rangers monsters so far reaches its thrilling conclusion! And who is the SHOCK number one pick… and why?? "We love the Chunky Chicken." It's not a weird thing to say! You don't understand! He has scissors that can cut through the fabric of reality. "Pudgy Pig is kind of the platonic ideal of Power Rangers…" Mat decides it's time to sit down with the Power Rangers and have a Very Serious Talk about their horrible (and frequent) misuse of the word 'dimension'. "It's inconsistent in its inconsistency!" I can't stress this enough. The single strangest, most mind bogglingly bizarre thing we've EVER SEEN on this show occurs in this episode. I can't spoil it for you, but it's AMAZING. AND SO MUCH MORE!!

  • MMPR 30: The Rockstar

    29/04/2014

Michael and Mat go guestless for the first time since our first episode, to watch the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode 'The Rockstar'. It's a rockin' episode! …sorry. We discuss our 30 favourite monsters on the show so far… at least 30 - 15, you'll have to wait till next week for the others. Find out why we thought Mr Ticklesneezer was the absolute worst monster (besides the name). Mat decides that Mary Shelley's seminal work, Frankenstein, oft described as the birth of science fiction, was not done justice when the character of Frankenstein's Monster was adapted for Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. He's here to make the tough calls so you don't have to. There's something missing from this episode. I can't quite put my finger on it. It just seemed to have less glorious, long 90s hair and Godzilla robots. It's the final appearance of the Rad Bug. Solemn times. "He's a man of some girth, and he really gets up into the air." 'The black one' is a phrase said by a small child referring to Zack, and

  • MMPR 29: Island of Illusion Part II

    22/04/2014

Tom returns to the podcast, as we tackle the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode 'Island of Illusion, Part II'! It's a thrilling conclusion, if by 'thrilling conclusion' you mean 'crappy clip show'. Here's some of what goes down in this episode: As a 'bonus', we have Paisley and Tim read the remarkably dull Power Rangers Dino Charge casting sides. "It's tough to find a girl who's into Electrobutts, but when you do…" Bulk and Skull are very nice, and are speaking in faux Shakespearian dialogue. Whaaat…? This must be some kind of… illusion! On this island. "Is that like dirty Dr Seuss? 'One thing, two thing, bumthing, cumthing…?'" "Some weeks the giant disembodied head of Satan gets blown up a giant robot dinosaur, and some weeks it doesn't." Spoiler warning: Magical little person Quagmire becomes a DJ! Not even a little bit joking! AND SO MUCH MORE!!

  • MMPR 28: Island of Illusion Part I

    15/04/2014

New guest Tom joins us on the podcast as we venture into the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode 'Island of Illusion'! But we promise not to deceive you! Here's some of what goes down on the podcast this week: Michael reports on what he's seen of Power Rangers Megaforce - apparently they have a dumb robot sidekick! The more things change, the more things stay the same. Apparently goop of Bulk's face is non-negotiable. This episode is packed with content, but they manage to rush in a milkshake accident in quickly at the start. Bulk's attempt to win a dance-off is foiled by polystyrene Ancient Greek style pillars in the middle of the Juice Bar. I hope you're not hoping to find out why those are there, because if you're there, you're shit out of luck. "I don't claim to be a mental health professional, but.." The Power Rangers fight "The Great Satan". Who has evil breath power. Which makes horrifyingly disfigured monsters more horrifyingly disfigured. You're doing children's programming wrong, Saban.
