Jesus identifies a widow in the temple who demonstrates to his disciples two things: who they are to care for and what generosity looks like.

Jesus' disciples reveal to us tendencies among disciples: small thinking and close mindedness. Jesus invites them to have a broader vision of his mission.

The disciples of Jesus are slow to grasp the nature of discipleship he has invited them into, a discipleship that involves service and radical hospitality.

Jesus didn't give into the temptation to be the king people wanted, hoped for, and expected. He was the king he was called to be. We too must resist the temptation to be the disciples we want to be and instead become the disciples we are called to be, cross carrying disciples.

Jesus doesn't offer people a five step plan for success and healing. Instead, he seems them as individuals and meets them in their personal need.

Jesus doesn't soften the call to purity by resisting the inclination toward legalism. Rather, Jesus sharpens the call to purity by inviting us to live from our hearts.

There are resources available to the people of God that are used to resist evil.

We realize our God given potential through faith as we develop the art of self-giving love.

How can the church develop one of it's most quintessential qualities – unity?

Faith is both personal and communal.

The church's greatest contribution comes through being who it is called to be in the context in which it's currently located.

The mission of God isn't pursued without challenge.

Jesus acts in the world with compassion and power.

When we see God we can be changed and those around us can be transformed.

We must be open to what God and his mission in the world will look like when they come. If we box God in we might miss it.
