Joshua 13--19 paint a powerful portrait of a God whose people thoroughly pursued him and followed through on his mission. In response to their obedience, God gave Israel their rightful inheritance as a fulfillment of his promise to them. Remembering God's faithfulness in our lives speaks to how amazing and faithful God is. As disciples of God we proclaim that God is on our side. This proclamation is more than just God's favor and blessings upon us. It also means our submission under God's righteousness and holiness. For reasons that are wise and good from God's perspective, He has chosen to work with and through humans. It is not a 50/50 relationship, but it is teamwork nonetheless. The divine and human each have their roles in accomplishing His tasks. Joshua and the Israelites experienced this vividly in taking over the Promised Land. How about today? Jericho was captured and the story ends with, ""So the Lord was with Joshua."" However, the next chapter starts with the ominious word, ""But..."" What happened? We are amazed when an athlete calls the winning shot or goal in a game. How much more staggering is it when God calls victory and his people then triumph over their enemies. From the downfall of Jericho we can learn what it will take to be faithful people in the God of promise. - Pastor Arthur Hsu

On a day that has been appropriately set aside to especially honor Moms, we tradiationally greet them with "Happy Mother's Day!" However, for many mothers, this is one of the most difficult days of the year as they are not moms because of circumstances, choices, and challenges. Some would love to be moms, but God has not given them children. Others are moms, but the struggle is very real and the feelings are raw. Some have lost their children--by a bad decision they made, or by a sickness or accident. Some deeply grieve the loss of their own mom. In all these cases and others...does God care? We often can let our circumstances dictate how we live. The tougher the circumstances, the more one can become stuck in life, paralyzed from moving forward in growth and trust. As the Israelites faced the mighty Jordan River they had to make a choice. Did they believe God or not? We face the same question and decision today. - Pastor Gaylord Tsuei

When Jesus made his triumphal entry into Jerusalem he knew what the stakes were. While initially the crowd's response was one of praise, Jesus knew he was riding into his death. Yet at that moment, Jesus did not count the cost. Instead, he lived out the cost. And that's the calling for his disciples today. What will it take for us not to count the cost, but to live out the cost for the sake of the gospel? - Pastor Arthur Hsu

Basically many of us have forgotten how powerful the Gospel is. In a day when so many are fearful, angry, and hopeless, the Gospel must be shared to everyone. However, many believers may have settled for a small view or weak version of the Gospel. Paul’s attitude is that the Gospel can transform our lives and transform our world! - Pastor Gaylord Tsuei
