  • Basic Bitching - Disney Cruise, Private Islands, and Why We Don't GAF About the Heard/Depp Court Case

    01/06/2022 Duration: 42min

Send us a textIt's been a minute since we've caught up - and as usual, there's a lot to talk about. This is the first part of our two part Basic because we needed a full debrief on Char's vacation on a Disney cruise, how much she loves a private island (duh), her bad luck with luggage, and our sidebar on the Amber Heard/Johnny Depp trial (spoiler, we don't give a fuck about it). We'll have part two of our Basic this Friday when Ange catches up on her 48-hour San Francisco extravaganza and how two nights can make you fall back in love with a city that often times breaks our hearts. --Thanks for listening and for your support! We couldn't have reached 600 episodes without your help! --Be well, stay safe, Black Lives Matter, AAPI Lives Matter, and thank you for being vaxxed and masked!--SUPPORT US HERE!Subscribe to our channel on YouTube for behind the scenes footage!Rate and review us wherever you listen to podcasts!Visit our website! www.bitchtalkpodcast.comFollow us on Insta

  • Flash Back Friday - Celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month with Lisa Ling

    27/05/2022 Duration: 24min

Send us a textWelcome to Flash Back Friday! With 600+ episodes, we're excited to revisit some of our favorites with our new listeners (and maybe new to our regular listeners). Before we close out AANHPI Heritage Month, we're flashing back  to February of this year, when we hang with Lisa Ling as she launched her new show on HBO Max. Holy shit, it's Lisa Ling! This was a big deal for us, and she lived up to every expectation. Her new show, Take Out with Lisa Ling, is an HBO docu-series that takes a deep dive into the diverse communities behind Asian American take-out, and their contributions to American society. The conversation ranges from how she finally feels connected to her Chinese roots and the importance of traveling the world, to cussing and karaoke. She's worked on The View, CNN, The National Geographic Channel, and The Oprah Winfrey Network (Lisa, if you're reading this, we're still waiting for Oprah's number), and now she's hosting one of our favorite shows of

  • SFFILM Fest - Mama Has a Mustache director Sally Rubin

    25/05/2022 Duration: 13min

Send us a textHad a great time talking with director Sally Rubin about her short film Mama Has a Mustache which screened at last month's 65th annual SFFilm Festival . Sally's film is a short, quirky, fully animated doc about gender and family, as seen through children’s eyes. Driven completely by audio interviews of kids ages 5-10, the film uses these sound bytes combined with clip-art and mixed media to explore how children are able to experience a world outside of the traditional gender binary. In this interview, Sally and Erin talk about the idea of using clip art/photos/video/and drawings to tell this story, the wonderful animation that is throughout the film,  what it was like to show the film to a theater full of elementary kids at the historic Castro Theater, and the fun JVN (Jonathan Van Ness, duh!) quip that she decided to leave in the film.   Films like Mama Has a Mustache are so important as a tool for education. If you have a little one in your life this is a great conversation starter or

  • My Hero The Hitman Director Justin Young

    20/05/2022 Duration: 16min

Send us a textWhen Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan was attacked in January 1994 it was the story of all stories that year. Fast forward 28 years later and we're sitting down with director Justin Young who's directorial debut, My Hero the Hitman, focuses on the person who was hired to attack Nancy Kerrigan, Shane Stant, and his sister Maile Stant.  There's a lot to uncover in this film. It's not specifically  about the act of violence that happened in 1994, but dives into the backstories of siblings that grew up with an abusive father, how their fathers behavior shaped their worlds, and what healing looks like years later as adults.  We speak with Justin about how he ended up telling this story, how redemption is at the heart of this film and what he learned from Maile and Shane's relationship, Justin's music career, his friend Michelle Kwan (who is a part of this documentary), the buttoned up skating world, and more. Thanks so much to Justin for his time and making a film ab

Send us a textComedian and author Ginny Hogan has written her first book I'm More Dateable Than a Plate of Refried Beans and Other Romantic Observations and we're here to give it the Bitch Talk bump.  Ginny's book takes us on the ride of how silly online/modern dating has become and has some hilarious observations on how these apps could work a little better for all of us, like, wouldn't it be fun to have an away message option for your DM's? Fucking brilliant.  We also chat with Ginny about her book tour, what sober sex is like (and should we give it try?), how online dating has become a job, will her book become a show, and more.  Thanks to Ginny for her time and  humor. Send us a textHowdy Bitch Talkers! We're taking you back to the March 22 online event that we hosted for San Francisco non-profit WeXL with film financier Chiquita Banks, Esq. We were drawn to host this event because filmmakers and/or creatives need to understand insider knowledge of how projects get made in Hollywood - let's get rid of the gatekeepers already! Chiquita has a wealth of knowledge of how film projects are funded, how streaming has taken over the industry, how Covid changed the way we watch everything, the right and wrong ways (and when) to vet projects, the ways in which filmmakers should educate themselves on what it takes to make a film (first stop - create a budget!), and so much more. We're also excited to be in partnership with WeXL! • Boycott Producer Suhad Babaa

    04/05/2022 Duration: 16min

Send us a textDid you know that in the past 6 years, 33 states (including California) have passed laws to silence boycotts against Israel on its human rights record? This blatant attack on our freedom of speech has happened with very little coverage or knowledge on the part of the average constituent, which is what makes this documentary so very important. Boycott follows the stories of three court cases of individuals across the country who are putting their livelihoods on the line to protect our freedom of speech and expose the political ties behind these anti-boycott laws (spoiler alert: it's the fundamentalist right-wing). We sat down with the wonderful and intelligent producer Suhad Babaa to discuss how they found which court cases to highlight, how and why the meaning of "patriot" has shifted, and what we can do to fight back. Get tickets to watch Boycott at DOCLands on Sunday, May 8th hereLearn more about the film and these anti-boycott laws on the Just Vision website You can follow prod

  • Sex and the Single Panda author Dahlia Gallin Ramirez

    29/04/2022 Duration: 19min

Send us a textWell, we met a new best friend - her name is Dahlia Gallin Ramirez and she has a new book out called Sex and the Single Panda : The Revolting Pursuit of Love in the Animal Kingdom.  The illustrated book was an idea that came to the cartoonist during the pandemic and explores the bizarre, intriguing, and often *disgusting* mating rituals of the animal kingdom. The book brilliantly sets itself up like a dating app in which the animal (male or female) writes up their "profile" first before you, the reader discovers what type of animal it is. We encountered a lot of surprises along this illustrated journey for instance did y'all know that the western honey bee leaves their peen inside female honey bees and then they die!? It's a total suicide by mating mission. WHAAAA??? And, there are also animals that have  BALLOONS ON THEIR BODY to entice the opposite sex. Do you have a balloon on your body to attract an interested party? Wait, don't answer that.We had a great time talkin

We were honored to be joined by director Nicole Mejia, co-writer and star Don DiPetta, producer Heliya Alam, and cinematographer Kadri Koop. We discuss the significance of having a woman direct (and other key roles in the crew) a story about a military vet, how the film's many beautiful locations (much like the film itself) came together in a serendipitous way, the power of horse therapy, and how life imitated art during the making of the film.In the short film Fresh to Frightening: The Sharon Green Story, we're introduced to Sharon Green, one of the best yacht racing photographers in

    04/04/2022 Duration: 35min

Send us a textThe Daniels Everything Everywhere All At Once is 2022's best film. Go see it and tell us it is not. This is the most excited we've been about a major action/sci-fi release in a long time (maybe ever) and we were ecstatic to welcome the lead cast to the mic - Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, and directors  Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. With the Daniels, we get to hear how they met, how they're process was writing this script before and during the Trump presidency, they're very fun fight props, setting the tone on-set and off, how in the hell they got Andre 3000 on the score of this film and a little bitch talking about some of our favorite directors making movies that feel tone deaf. Changing over to the lead cast, Erin talks with Michelle Yeoh about an off camera comment she made to one of the Daniels, Stephanie Hsu talks all about her bad ass wardrobe's while playing villain Jobu Tupaki, and Ke Huy Quan talks about coming back to the big screen after years

  • Basic Bitch - Oscars Trauma (plus some things that made us happy)

    28/03/2022 Duration: 46min

Send us a textWell, this wasn't the episode that we planned to put out for today, but due to unforseen circumstances (ie: normalized violence, mental health, and toxic masculinity), we threw out the bat signal and got together to rush this conversation while it was still fresh on our minds. There was reason to be excited about the 94th Academy Awards, and there were plenty of moments that brought us great joy. But unfortunately that all got overshadowed by Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on live tv, in front of millions, with no repercussions. And then he goes on to win the award for best actor to a standing ovation and a five plus minute speech that praised himself as being a vessel of love. This is our reaction.--Thanks for listening and for your support!
