Jesus was tempted in every way, even as we are, yet He did not sin.  This could make Him contemptuous of us, but instead, He has compassion, as One who understands what we are going through.

John said, “No, I should be baptized by You!”  Jesus replied, “This is to fulfill all righteousness.”  We’ll explore this exchange and see what we can learn from it.

Today, we begin a tour through all four Gospels with an introduction to Jesus.  All four let us know He is the One we’ve been waiting for.

Some of our teens will tell about their experiences with God and what He is doing in their lives.

David, as is obvious from this passage, had tremendous wealth.  Now, as he is preparing to die, having taken care of his family, gives most of it back to God. 

In pride, David calls for a census, which brings God’s judgment and great suffering.  But the final outcome is that David gains and dedicated the hill that we now call the Temple Mount.

David’s struggle is between his love for his son and his faithfulness to God and His people.  In the end, he chooses God.

This is all about who Jesus is, Son of God, Son of man, the hope of all mankind

God’s love required Him to be up close and personal.  It was a power that compelled Him to send Jesus to this world.

David is God’s anointed, yet many, even of his supposed allies, are rising against him.  At the same time, we find some unexpected allies.  And then there are those you just can’t figure out whose side they’re on.  When times are hard, that is when God’s people have a chance to shine.

Our faithfulness might move like the waves of the sea, but God’s love endures forever.

The repentant sinner does not make light of his guilt, or take forgiveness for granted.  He seeks restoration from God as one who is not worthy of what he seeks.

The story of David and Bathsheba is the worst we see of David.  But it is only part of the dismal story of David, his wives, and his children.  This week, learning from David’s family collapse, about the importance of a faithful husband and father. 

Where many kings would see a threat, David found an opportunity to show kindness.

David wants to do something for God, but it doesn’t compare to what God wants to do for David.

David had a good idea, but he executed it badly, and the results were tragic.  It is an important lesson for us all.

Once upon a time, Jerusalem was known as the city of the Jebusites.  David made it the capital of Israel, and the city of the King.

Sin has consequences; it cannot be ignored.  While David was off preparing for war, an ancient enemy raided Ziklag, took plunder, and carried off all the people.  This enemy should have been dealt with long ago.

David and his men find themselves in enemy territory, but still do God’s work.  It’s a good analogy for Christians in a hostile world.
