Read the full Forbes article and watch the interview here: Andrew Leon Hanna, 27, and David Delaney Mayer, also 27, became fast friends at Duke, based, at least in part, on their shared status as descendants of immigrants they have known. After years of searching, the pair settled on starting a social enterprise called DreamxAmerica to write an empowering narrative of immigrants, creating a film production company that would tell the story of immigrant entrepreneurs and invest in their businesses. Hanna, a Harvard Law student, is a first-generation Egyptian-American. Mayer’s grandfather was a refugee from Germany following World War II; his great grandfather was killed in Auschwitz. The new enterprise is not only personal but timely. “Immigrants are too often portrayed in the media one-dimensionally as victims or villains—not as the strong, creative, inspiring human beings they truly are,” Hanna notes. A Filmmaker’s Close Look Shows No One Is Immune From Heroin Addiction - #1097
16/04/2019 Duration: 26minNever miss another interview! Join Devin here: http://bit.ly/joindevin. The first lesson Conrad Weaver learned about heroin as he worked to produce his new film Heroin’s Grip was that no one is immune. Addiction captures rich and poor alike. Another key insight from his research is that the most dangerous drugs on the street are the most sought after. When someone dies from taking heroin laced with fentanyl, the reaction on the street is often to find the dealer not to avoid their stuff but to get it. The tragic result is as we’ve seen in recent years that sometimes several people--if not several dozen--die in a series as one after another seeks the ultimate high. When anyone seeks to reinvent the grocery business in light of both the wreckage left by WebVan and the presence of Amazon with Whole Foods in the market, it is hard to conceive success for a well-capitalized upstart. When the entrepreneur is a 24-year-old college dropout, the temptation to dismiss him grows. Chai Mishra is launching a consumer-owned cooperative to provide online groceries with confidence bordering on hubris, but backers including Y Combinator and the San Francisco 49ers are betting on his new platform, simply called Move. Mishra sees two primary problems with the current food distribution business. First is unequal access to food. Second is the exploitation of food producers, especially smallholder farmers both in the U.S. and around the world. He argues that the existing supply chain for food makes it unnecessarily expensive to consume

'Hippie' Immigrant Launches Good Money Banking Co-Op For The People - #1092
04/04/2019 Duration: 25minNever miss another interview! Join Devin here: http://bit.ly/joindevin. Read the full Forbes article and watch the interview here: http://bit.ly/2FSsjLX. Gunnar Lovelace, founder and CEO of Good Money, was raised in a “hippie commune” in California. He doesn’t think much of the banking system in the U.S., so he’s launched Good Money, a consumer banking platform structured as a customer-owned cooperative, to change things--radically. In the video player above, you can watch our full interview. This is how he framed our discussion: Just to clearly frame the problem--the average U.S. consumer today spends $360 a year for a s****y banking product where banks pay practically zero on your money as a customer then leverage your money on a 10x ratio to go fund things like the Dakota Access Pipeline and private prisons and make a bunch of money on that and then pay you nothing. As a consumer you kind of say that out loud that “I'm going to give you money to make money on my money, messing things up while paying me
