This week an audition show that was never broadcast. Ambitious in its production, this Santana Productions radio series created only one episode. Based on a short story by James M. Cain, the episode stars - who else? - Humphrey Bogart. Episode 17 of the 20 part serial adventure - "Temple of Vampires" continues.

It was 1940 in America prior to our entry into World War II. In March Arch Oboler Plays broadcast the horrific tale of a young man terribly disfigured from World War I. It's Suspense meets the Blair Witch! One of most audio entertaining episodes of this long running series takes us on a "Ghost Hunt" as a reporter records events as they unfold. Ralph Edwards (right) stars in a remarkable performance. Please Take our Listener Survey

This week, you'll travel to Northern India where you will join with two scoundrels who seek to become kings. Rudyard Kipling's (right) adventure of "The Man Who Would Be King" on the CBS radio series Escape. The radio play is adapted by the veteran radio writer, Les Crutchfield. Sometimes radio was a good vehicle for strong drama. This week a radio play from the pen of E. Jack Neumann which drew strong criticism for the time for its hard hitting theme on devolution of the human psyche and the fear it can strike into our hearts. This week a look at one of the government's World War Two radio propaganda programs. The series produced by William N. Robson (right) was a superb program in sound effects as well as a prime vehicle for providing the American public with how our men worked overseas. This week's adventure is "Incident in the Pacific." I stretch the "adventure" just a bit to fit the season as we look at how both America and our soldiers overseas during WW II coped with the dreary year of 1942. The war was not going well and life was looking a bit bleak with Hitler on the move in Europe. This week a brief digression from "Temple of Vampires," I present Robert Montgomery (right) in the John Buchan story "The Thirty-nine Steps." A story about a man's accidental involvement in espionage and crime on the verge of World War I. "Temple of Vampires" returns next week.

This week I begin a 20 part serial of Carlton E. Morse's Temple of Vampires. Morse was one of radio's most prolific writers and a good storyteller to boot. I'll play the first two episodes this week, then include one each week along with other adventures.

In answer to requests for another of the three existing Christopher London episodes, I am returning once more to the Glenn Ford radio serial Adventures of Christopher London. This episode was the premier episode called "The Missing Heiress." Plus a couple of early Glenn Ford radio appearances.

Our radio adventure this week follows in the steps of Phillips H. Lord and his production of David Harding, Counterspy. Harding is an agent who covers overseas as well as spies in our own backyard. This week you'll hear an episode from 1949 where Harding is fighting communists within our country.

In 1963, Alfred Hitchcock produced a film called "The Birds" based on the Daphne du Maurier short story. Ten years earlier, a radio version closer to the original story was broadcast over Lux Radio Theatre. This week, our adventure takes us to a town in which it appears the birds are taking their revenge on humans.

This week we travel to "Ship-trap Island" where we become the hunter and the hunted as we follow "The Most Dangerous Game" with Orson Welles and Keenan Wynn.
